Obama stated a few days ago he was going to pursue a bill that would ban all assualt weapons, again. The ban was put in place by Clinton in 1994, pushed by Bush I but expired in 2004. GWB wouldnt touch it but said he WOULD pass it if Congress passed it.

But today, LIBERAL DEMS, Harry reid and Nancy Pelosi said they would not support the ban....

Imagine that...Pelosi and reid doing more than GWB did for gun owners....

LMBO...

We need some limits on guns, OR stricter penalties for unlawful possession. I work in Philadelphia and in the last 18 months, we've had about 7 or 8 cops killed. The police can't compete with the street thugs. It's out of control

We need stricter penalties for gun crimes and limits on semi-automatic weapons in my opinion.

What you are describing is already against the law. The Assault weapons ban was a joke! It limited rifles to no more than two of the following. 1. A pistol Grip 2. 30 Round Mag 3. Bayonet Lug 4. Flash Suppressor

The only one of those that is potentially dangerous to masses of people is the 30 round mag so during the Clinton assault weapons ban manufacturers just produced the same darn thing only with no flash suppressor or bayonet lug. And by the way to my knowledge there has not been a bayonet charge in the US since the Civil War. Libbies... as long as they feel good they think they've done a good thing. Columbine happened under the Clinton Assault weapons ban for crying out loud. How about send everyone who shoots a cop to a firing squad five days after they are convicted with 3 or more eye witness testimonies? How about turn prisons into profit making manufacturing plants where inmates have to actually work and produce something so that prisons require very little public funds. They can earn a low wage that accumulates in a trust for them so that when they get out they have a road stake. How about we enforce the gun laws we have (can't there are too many and most are confusing even to police).

Making new laws is not the answer and it is never about controlling crime it is about taking away our right to defend ourselves against tyranny!

You are right JL we must stiffen the penalties for gun criminals and leave the law abiding citizen their CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. (Caps for emphasis not yelling)

A link to the story...

Perhaps the dems are trying to stay in charge for a while and not waste political capital on fights they might squeek by a win on, only to see themselves thrown out in a few years...

With Regards to what Bush did for Gun Rights....

He let the ARB expire... Good...

He nominated Alito and Roberts, with whom the SCOTUS struck down Handgun bans as being unconstitutional.

But, Bush also said he would sign the ban if Cobgress passed it after it expired. Bush I pushed for it and Clinton signed it...but then it expired and Bushy II would have signed it back in again.

He was also FOR the DC handgun ban as well...

He was just like the others...and its all about politics...

ehh... hopefully they realized that the ban, wound up not banning anything other than some cosmetic changes....

I did pick up my handgun in December, and I do plan on picking up a Shot Gun, and most likely an AR... Like an american made AK, and that will probibly wind up being my "arsenol". I have been looking at the Mossberg 500 Tactical Shotgun...

LMBO...Have you considered, like everything else we have seen thus far since this new administration and current congress, that they don't support this ban because they have bigger plans and it's not enough? ;)

When what you have purchased above is either gone or too expensive to keep, you'll need something they most likely will not take that can still get the job done. :D

What restictios should or should not be allowed for guns?

Is it OK for anyone to own any gun, including BIG guns...IE - Surplus tank rounds and Howitzer cannons?

I think the automatic weapons laws are good. You have to have a Federal background check and pay a $200 transfer fee at the time you purchase the automatic weapon. I do however object to the regular BATF inspections of the automatic firearm in your home.

Anyone may not own a gun- felons may not own a gun. For good or bad that is the law and has been a HUGE motivator in my care to not break the law (as well as loosing my right to vote)

Citizens do not need to own a tank or a rocket launcher to defend against tyranny. That is the gun control libbies moot argument. Think about it.

The Second Ammendment is not about duck hunting.

PS Is a .22 Mag a decent caliber for predator hunting? (Coyote)

Yeh, I dont know where the fine line is...

a .22 mag is NOT a real good Pred gun...its ab it small. The larger rounds in the .22 cal are better and farther reaching. Fox and Coyotes often hang up 100 --400 yrs out, so you need a good falt shooting gun with some knock down power. 22-250 or 220 Swift.

.22 mag is only good for head shots...

I like the way you think on this issue, including the prison reform ideas. I've had many of these same thoughts.

This is one of the most (if not the most) deadly round in history. It is often the round of choice for murderers (serial killers and assassins often use this round) because of the super-compact size of the firearm, the quiet "pop" (sounds like a firecracker, not a gun shot) and the ease of attaining the rounds.

Few murders are committed with automatic weapons in the USA (in comparison), even though there are many illegal automatic weapons in the USA. In fact, more people are stabbed to death than shot with automatic weapons. I say ban knives!

Okay. I was going to go take on some Coyotes but I may now leave the .22 mag at home and borrow a .223 target rifle my friend has. He used to compete with it out to 1200 meters so it should be okay at 400 yds. The scope has an adjustable objective.
