Son of Homophobic Megachurch Pastor Arrested in Gay Sex Sting
Dallas megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes has said that he would never hire a sexually active gay person, has spoken out against same-sex marriage, and has called homosexuality a "brokenness." Now his son has been arrested in a sex sting after approaching law enforcement officers in a park and exposed himself to them while masturbating, according to the Dallas Voice:

"Jermaine Donnell Jakes, 29, faces a charge of indecent exposure after allegedly exposing himself in front of two undercover vice detectives shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 3. Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, a DPD spokeswoman, confirmed Thursday, Feb. 12 that the detectives were both male. According to an arrest affidavit, the detectives were conducting an investigation into citizen complaints of sexual activity when they observed Jakes and several other unknown males park their vehicles in the lot east of the park at 2106 W. Kiest Blvd. The detectives followed Jakes into a wooded area, where he approached them with his penis exposed through his unzipped pants, the affidavit states. Jakes **********d for several seconds while making eye contact with one of the detectives. Jakes made no attempt to conceal his penis despite people walking and jogging on a trail nearby, the affidavit states. According to court records, Jermaine Jakes listed his place of employment as T.D. Jakes Ministries."

T.D. Jakes' ministry, Potter House, has a membership of 30,000.

The Dallas Morning News reports: " The son of Potter’s House Bishop T.D. Jakes turned himself in to the Dallas County Jail on Thursday on an indecent exposure charge stemming from an incident at a southern Dallas park last month. Jermaine Jakes, 29, posted $1,000 bail and was released Thursday morning, according to jail records... He was detained at the scene and released, as is often the procedure in such cases. The charge is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine."

"After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and he planted a vineyard. One day he drank some wine he had made, and he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw that his father was naked and went outside and told his brothers. Then Shem and Japheth took a robe, held it over their shoulders, and backed into the tent to cover their father. As they did this, they looked the other way so they would not see him naked.

When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done. Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham:"

"Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins."

the sad thing is that this perpetuates the stereotype that pk's are the worse kids. And often times, in an attempt to preach to and shepherd the flock, the family is the first thing neglected.

that's a great point, and ive heard many pastors admit this and many pastors kids admit this. If God willing I am a pastor and I have a family I will no doubt be very mindful of the precious family time that is needed

but I guess that's why St. Paul said for the sake of the Gospel it's better to stay single, you can be a lot more reckless single

Neglect, is only one reason of many why PK's wind up "going wild". For some, they get far more latitude with the adults around them then other kids would. I know for some, living the the glass bubble makes it very difficult to live up to unnecessarly high expectations...

I like to think it's not all preacher's kids. It's very unfortunate. Is it that preacher's kids are neglected, or that the rebellious stage is much more significant for a preacher's child. I'm not sure. Maybe the Catholics have it right by not letting their clergy marry... but I think that creates a whole different set of problems.

My friend's hubby is a pk, and his father was apparently told by some people in one of his flocks that his duty was to the church. Therefore, he should be studying the word instead of going to his son's baseball games. Good thing he didn't listen, because his son defies the wild and rampant pk stereotype.

Nope....

"[False teachers] forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer."
1 Timothy 4:3-

At the same time, if a person voluntarily remains celibate (like Paul and many of the disciples did) for the purpose of being completely free to focus on how to please God, then I'm all for it (see Mathew 19:12; 1 Corinthians 7:25-35).

i sure hate to hear news like this...i know it is embarassing for the ministry as well as the young man...

sounds like an urgent cry for help...

Stories like this remind me of how blessed I have been with the two congregations I have served. At the congregation I just left, one of the parsihioners came into my office one day and shut the door immediately. I could tell right away he had something serious to say. I thought I was going to get raked over the coals for something I said in a sermon or something I was teaching in confirmation or somebody who was in need of a visit who I had not visited yet. Instead in a very firm but loving manner he said that he and some others had noticed that my wife had seem very stressed lately. This was right after we found out that our youngest son was autistic. He said that he thought maybe I was taking on too much and that I wasn't relying enough on the congregation. He basically said "We're a pretty capable people. We can take some of this on. You need to take care of your family." It was one of the most humbling experiences in my life.

I dont know if I should be happy or sad...

sad for the kid...

Happy for the church..so people can see the destructiveness of RELIGION and how the religion and men and a building should not be worshipped...

..and that we're all on the same level, in some way.

well put!! I am sad for the kid and what he will endure, especially if he struggles with his sexuality. He runs the risk of alienation from his family, something most people can't endure. I pray for his well being.

Religion sucks! The Triune God of Relationships and Freedom ROCKS MY SOCKS! Performance based theology cannot be lived. Trinitarian/ Incarnational Theology is where its at!
