How often do you think about the cross of Christ? Maybe at Easter? Or during Passover? Or maybe at Christmas time.

I like to think about the cross and the event that took place there much more often then that. What Christ did...on the cross...is the most important event in all of history.
Think about this for a minute...Jesus Christ... God himself...sacrificed himself that we may be granted forgiveness for our sins. We have all sinned...every one of us, we sin every day and will continue to sin because that is human nature. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23. This is why the atoning sacrifice of Jesus is so important. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 6:23. Without the sacrificial death of Christ...there would be no forgiveness. Where would that leave us? Seperated from God forever...scary thought isn't it?

Let us also think for a moment about another aspect of the crucifixion of Christ... Eternal life. Reference Romans 6:23 above. Jesus paid the price...that we may have a place in heaven...with Him. "In my Fathers house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am" John 14:2-3 Is this not amazing? God the Father loves us so much...He sent His only Son to die for us...that we may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.

When you think of the cross of Christ...do you think also about what it took for Jesus to do this for us? Jesus willingly allowed himself to be ridiculed, beaten, flogged, and then crucified. As the Lord hung on the cross...he also had to endure the weight of all our sins. ( Isaiah 53:6 ) The agony Jesus suffered to pay for our sins is beyond our ability to comprehend. Yet He willingly did this for us....why?...because God loves us that much. Then, after all the pain and suffering...Jesus allowed himself to die. Did you catch that? No one killed our Lord and Savior...he allowed himself to die. ( John 10:18, 19:30 ) This is love on a level we cannot begin to fathom ( 1 John 4:8 ).

The next time you see a cross...take a moment to reflect on who was on that cross and what he did for us. Have you accepted this amazing gift from God? For eternal life is a gift... " For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast" Ephesians 2:8-9. Grace is being given what we don't deserve...and we don't deserve eternal life with God. God loves us so much...that he offers to us a priceless gift, eternal life.

How do you receive this amazing gift? The apostle Paul was once asked " what must I do to be saved" his response..."believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved ..."Acts 16:31. Repent of your sins...ask for forgiveness, believe in the Lord Jesus...and you will be granted this beautiful, awesome gift of eternal life.

All because of...the cross of Christ
