I get the feeling that the government in the USA is really playing on this whole "faltering economy" thing for all it is worth. They are the ones who mostly caused the situation, and now they are acting like the proverbial bum with his pockets pulled inside out. They speak of making more roads toll roads, etc. They talk about how they just don't have the money to do certain projects and so they need to raise certain taxes, etc. They are really milking this thing for all it is worth! It is like the boy who fell down and got a scraped knee, and now our "mommy" is going, "Oh, I'm sorry sweetie. This hurts me just as bad as it hurts you. Here is some milk and cookies, and lets talk about how we can spend your allowance together..."
I get so tired of the governors talking about our "faltering economy" and in the next breath telling us how they need more money for this or that project. Everyone should know that the ONLY way an economy recovers from a recession is for people to not adopt the attitude of self pity, but rather regain the courage to step out there and do their best in creative ways. Now is the time for leaders who will encourage people to do just that -- take the risks, invest, and run businesses with sound reasoning and good practices. It is like this government wants to keep the "doom and gloom" umbrella over all of us a little longer so they can milk more thoroughly. Now is their chance (so to speak) to really appeal to the American people for a hand out. It's like this: You scratch our back right now (we are so broke!) and then we will scratch yours later and make things all better!
Is it just me, or are you feeling the same thing?
I would love to hear a government leader say, "Listen America. It was mostly our fault -- yes, the fault of your government -- that you are in the situation you find yourself in today. We screwed up, and we aren't the answer to the problem. Let's make a deal. We will do the best we can to clean up our own mess. We will cut spending and waste, stop padding pockets that shouldn't be padded, and do what we can to stay out of your way. We don't want more of your money, because we are already spending it too fast as it is. As for you folks, the tax-payers who make it even possible for us to exist, we need this input from all of you: What do you need us to do to help you be as successful as you can be? If it is lower taxes, can we decide together how far we can do that and still keep the services you want going? If you want privatization of government departments, let's see if we can work something out. Would it help if we eliminated taxes on your small business for a year, for instance?
No. Instead they do what they are doing now. Whining about how broke they are and how much money they need from us. They are pretending like they are wallowing in misery with us while they continue to fly around in their Lear Jets. Give me a break!
