I wanted to share a story that's been happening here in Sydney for the past several weeks. For about the last month or two an organised gang (or group of gangs) has been blowing up ATM machines around Sydney in order to steal cash from the machines. The bandits apparently also have it in for one particular bank. Everytime an ATM is attacked, the famous St George bank is on the receiving end. Last night, there was another attack -- in my suburb. It happened around 2AM. I didn't hear it (I can sleep through anything), but my family did. Thankfully, no one was hurt - nor did the theives get away with any money - but the shopfront around the ATM was badly damaged. I use the ATM all the time and I also use the newsagency there. Please pray for the owner of the newsagency. His shop has been very badly damaged and he will lose alot of income from having to be closed. Let's hope the theives get caught soon.
See the story here:

I heard on the news that the cops are a little closer to catching the theives. Hopefully.

That was close to you, Col. I didn't realise that Ruse was such an exciting suburb. :P
By the way, did you notice that you spelled Sydney as Juan Samaranch pronounced it a few years ago? ;)

It's actually a fairly quite and out-of-the-way suburb. Probably why the theives choose it. Mind you, about a month ago there was an armed hold-up at the pub. And then of course there was the video store owner that got shot in the leg 10 or so years ago, and then a man I use to go to school with had his brother shot a few years ago as well.

In England the ATM thieves steal the whole ATM - they ram raid the store, tie a chain around the ATM machine, and then tow it out of the shop using a 4x4, or other high powered vehicle.
I have examined several ATM machines laying in ditches in the countryside with empty safes.
With so many ATM points dotted around the country, it is not easy to predict where the offenders may strike next.

Tow it? I am assuming they would throw it in the boot at some point. Speeding away from a crime scene with an ATM tethered to the back of your car isn't exactly subtle.

Yes, I know Ruse a little, and it is quiet, hence my smart remark. :P

I once saw a video of a guy trying to do this, and instead of getting the machine, he ripped his bumper off (and he took off). Bummer for him was, his bumper contained his license plate... ;)
Criminals are only criminals because they are too stupid to legally make money. I once had someone tell me that I would make an excellent criminal, and I said only fools choose that path, and I'm no fool.

I like that mainly because it's so obvious! You dad's a smart man.
