Yes he was. George Ryan was convicted in a drivers license scandal.

Chicagoland politics at its best... And this is the landscape that the next president cut his political teeth in....
For some reason, I think we are in for a laundry list of investegations the next four years. Hillary Clinton thought there was a vast right wing conspiracy against them in the 90's....

You can say what you want, but Obama was in no way implicated in this. What the governor did was undoubtedly wrong and he should be punished.

Did I say Obama was implicated in this? No I didn't. What I said, was, Chicagoland politics is dirty and corrupt, and it was in this political landscape that Obama's political career was built.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2008/12/09/report-illinois-governor-taken-federal-custody/
FBI Special Agent-in-Charge in Chicago Robert Grant said he was asked by reporters when he first started the investigation "whether or not Illinois is the most corrupt state in the United States."
"And I didn't answer that question, yes or no, and I can't answer that question today. I don't have 49 other states to compare it with. But I can tell you one thing: If it isn't the most corrupt state in the United States, its certainly one hell of a competitor," he said.

No, and I'm sorry if my comment suggested you did. I was making a generic statement.

Three of Illinois' last seven governors, not counting Blagojevich, have gone to jail (two for corruption), including Blago's immediate predecessor Ryan, and at least one more was indicted but not convicted. Illinois' government is by far the most corrupt in the US. The surprising thing isn't that he was corrupt, only that he was busted.

wow, i'm all for punishment, but executions for trying to sell a senate seat may be a tad over-reactive.
Blago will go to prison, we can hope...unless the mob somehow keeps him out. But it will make for an interesting 4 years. IMO, there's no way that obama could rise to power in Chicago and not have done some shady dealings. But then again, that could be said of every politician, most likely.

The plot thickens! Rahm Emmanual allegedly spoke to Gov. Blagojevich concerning who will fill Obama's empty senate seat. This comes out after Obama declared the other day that nobody in his staff has had any conversations with Gov. Blagojevich about his senate seat. Better yet, the conversation may have been taped!

The Obama angle seems to be a bit of a non-starter, really ... from what's included in the FBI complaints, it looks like Obama's people (Emanuel or whomever) told Blagojevich to go take a flying leap when he tried to squeeze them for some reward for appointing their favorite candidate. Who knows why they won't talk about it ... maybe he thinks it'd be gauche. But from what Blagojevich is recorded as having said on the phone, it seems rather unbelievable that Obama or anyone terribly close to him would be implicated as having done anything illegal here.
