Snow falls down making the most beautiful scene. Couples holding hands walking in the fallen snow. Children making snowmen, throwing snowballs, and sledding. Without a single care in the world. With a blissful and contented sigh I continued to stare out the window at the calm and serene scene. Oh, how beautiful it all was. I could definitely do without the cold for sure, but I gladly endured the cold just for the beauty of it all. Finally I pried myself away from the window. I slowly walked over to the table where two cups sat steaming. One holding coffee and one holding hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows. One for me and one for him. It was perfect…only…there was no him. Everyday I sat there and hoped, nevertheless…no prince for me. My “prince” turned into a frog. No, not even a frog. More like a toad. Or just plain pond scum. That’s what he was, he was scum. I sat down at the table. Wrapping my fingers around the cup of hot chocolate, ah, warmth. I raised the cup to my lips and took a sip. My body slowly warmed from the inside out. I had just pulled my Bible out for my quiet time when I heard a pounding on my front door. Normally I would have been tempted to ignore it, but it being winter and all the sickness going around. I worried someone in the family might be ill or hurt. I slowly stood up and made my way to the front door. Opening the door I was assaulted with a blast of cold air. There standing at my front door was the most handsome man in the world. Well at least in my opinion. Picture this: tall, with the most beautiful blonde hair, and the biggest, brightest, and clearest baby blue eyes. Oh, and his smile. Bright enough to give and old woman a heart attack. This man was a hunk! Okay he wasn’t real tall, but taller then my 5 ‘3’. He was maybe 5 ’6’. I must have stood there a full minute before I even thought to invite him in.
“Oh, dear me. Please come in and dry off. My, you must be freezing. Why don’t you come into the living room by the fire. Would you like some coffee?” I asked all in a rush. He took his coat off revealing a snug polo. By snug I mean defined every ounce of muscle on his torso/chest.
“Yes ma’am coffee would be nice.”
I waddled into the kitchen as fast as an 8 ½ month pregnant lady can waddle. ‘
‘Finally,’ I thought ‘a man to share my table with.’
‘Jade! Stop that thinking.’ My other half argued. ‘You know what happened last time you let a man in your life.’
I stared down at my belly.
‘That was different’ I argued, ‘I’m smarter now.’
I fixed a tray up with 2 cups for coffee, a coffee pot, creamer, and sugar. I took the tray into the living room being careful not to bump the tray with my huge belly. Where Mr. Hunk had taken my advice and was standing by the fire. As I approached is whole manner changed so drastically that I wondered if this was the same man I had just let in. The one who seemed so sure of himself was now standing in my living room, holding a picture of my only brother, and looking like he was about to cry. That’s when he spoke.
“I’m looking for someone. I have to give her a message.”
“Well maybe I can help. I know just about everyone here.”
“I’m looking for a young lady of about 18.”
“Well sir, not to seem rude, but does this young lady have a name?”
So much for my earlier fantasies, eh.
“Yes, she does. A rather unusual name actually. Her name is Jade Stone. Seems kind of funny her parents would name her that. Imagine that.”
“Yeah,” I said softly, “Imagine that.”
“So, do you know her?” He asked.
“You’re looking at her.”
