View Full Version : What's up with the cheese

On MacDonald's and Burger King's burgers? YUCK!! A noticeable change. Which I guess is good, it'll keep me from eating either of them. So when in a rush, and now with this yucky cheese, my rush food will change, wonder what it will be? Steak n Shake, Five Guys? Chick-fil-a??
When in a pinch, where do you go for grub? If you pick other, let us know what other is...

Dollar Menu!!!
No clue about a cheese change.
The movie I watched instead of the election news last Tuesday, Uncle Buck, says to his sister-in law on this topic:
Do you have a plunger?
While I'm thinking of these things.
For the morning.
My plumbing is bad.
Of course, yours is good.
I would imagine.
Don't worry about it.
Everything will be fine.
I've been bound up lately.
It's driving me crazy. I've been eating
a lot ofcheese for some reason.
I got a craving for the stuff.
Do you think maybe that's an allergy?
Yeah.
I don't know, I can't get enough cheese.
I feel like a big mouse.

I do either Sonic or Chic-fil-a

If I'm with people from work we usually go to Taco Bell. If I'm by myself I sometimes go to Sonic. We don't have any other fast fod places, except McDonald's and BK.

I'm tempted to go with taco bell. Hardees is the all time best its expensive yes but you get what you pay for. Out of all those Wendy's is the worst.

What are Five Guys and Krystal?
I chose Taco Bell, but my two most recent fast food experiences were KFC and El Pollo Loco. It's all about the chicken. ;) Actually, if I was to ever start a restaurant, it'd be a sit-down place called Totally Chicken ... only chicken dishes but tons of 'em.
Fried chicken
Chicken cacciatore
Chicken and dumplings
Chicken teriyaki
Chicken curry
Chicken chimichangas
Chicken parmesan
... two hours later ....
... Pineapple chicken. That ... that's about it.

What are Five Guys and Krystal?
Krystal burgers are mini burgers with a gray hamburger patty Elwood talked about a while back...soggy bun :)
Five Guys is really good, ground steak, they are what Steak N Shake used to be. Their fries are awesome. No drive thru and I do try and steer clear of there....

Chick Fil A. I swear that lovely Atlanta man made this restaurant just for me. Everything they make is glorious. I'm in love. :D
And as much as I love that they're closed on Sundays, it seems like that's always when I hanker it. Or after 10 pm. Its probably better that way anyway!

Out of the ones on that list, I'd say either Wendy's or Taco Bell, depending on which one is on my route while I'm driving. Mickey D's has good fries and salads, but I don't go there often since they're almost never anywhere near me when I'm driving at mealtime.
Not on the list that gets frequented a lot: Subway (I love their Spicy Italian BMT), and "Bo's" aka Bojangle's (chicken, spicy fries [or the dirty rice or cole slaw, depending on the mood] and a biscuit. And a free iced tea, when I take them up on that.)
(I still think it's hilarious that back when we had a minor league hockey team here, the long time coach who was here at one point took a job coaching a minor league team in San Diego, but came back after one season because they didn't have a "Bo's" in San Diego. LOL. Now THAT'S some serious chicken love! :D )
I LOVE Steak N Shake, we've got one not too far from the house, but don't go there all that often. I think it's the fact that I hate to go and NOT get a shake, but I so seldom actually do milkshakes, I always feel some serious calorie guilt when I do, so don't do it that often. Besides, Doug makes fun of their skinny little "sissy fries" as he called them the last time we ate there. :P

Steak & Shake has the bestest fries.
The Unknown Gomer
11-11-2008, 05:40 PM
I love them, myself! :) The skinny little fries match their skinny little burger patties.
But when they put the plate in front of Doug that last time, he just looked at them, and asked me what was up with the fries? he'd have to put 5 of them together to equal one REAL fry.
Then he proceeded to grumble something about "sissy fries" and I almost spewed coke out my nose. :P
I'm still waiting for the day when they bring back my very favoritest shake flavor. It was some long winded thing, something about a chocolate caramel machiatto something, and it was SOOOOO good, the best shake that I've ever had there. It hasn't been on the menu for several years though.

our local McD's manager /owner doesn't do pre-employment drug screening. Does it ever show!
....if we're out and about - Taco del Mar!
Quizno's??? The last time I went there ALL their "bigger/better than Subway" sandwiches were the same size as McD's/BK's snackers. 2 1/2 bites and done

Zaxby's
The Unknown Gomer
11-12-2008, 03:33 AM
I've eaten at Zaxbys. Once. It may have been just a coincidence or bad timing, but right after, I ended up spending a good part of that afternoon running to the bathroom.
Needless to say, I've been a little hesitant to go back there again.
On the subject of Subway vs Quiznos, I'm going to throw a third option into the ring... ToGos is better than both of those, IMHO. Alas, they don't have those here in Raleigh yet. So until my mom and I flew back to CA to visit with my grandma last year, it had been a good 12 years since I had one of their sandwiches.
Our first food stop upon arriving in CA? ToGos, for a hot pastrami and swiss that beats anyone else's hot pastrami and swiss all to pieces. The only thing here that comes close might be Schlotzky's, if you can find any of them still open these days.

There are a million and a half Schlotzky's here in the Austin area. I went there once, but wasn't very pleased with how little food you get for what they were charging. It made me feel like I was at an airport. Dinky little sandwich for an emormous price. And it didn't come with a drink or chips.
I recently ventured into a Jason's Deli.....and I think that's where I'll go for now on. I couldn't believe how much meat they put on that sucker! One sandwich was about 3 meals and it was only about $7 or so. And it came with chips and a really good pickle.
I used to be a Subway fan, until one day when I picked a sandwich up to bring with me on a 14 mile canoe trip. Half way through the trip, we pulled over to the side of the river, pulled out the subs. And I bit into it and said "Where's the meat??" There was literally 2 pieces of meat on there and one measly piece of cheese cut in half on there. The tiniest sprinkling of lettuce and two tomatoes. I wasn't very happy since I was looking for food to keep me going on this long trip. One thing I cannot understand is why they put so little luttuce on there. Especially when I didn't ask for all the other veggies on there. So after eatting my bread sandwich, I stopped going there. I go once in a big while if I am on the road and the choice is McDonalds or Subway.
And Quiznos, the one I went to was overpriced big time for what you got. It was tasty, but pricey. And I didn't like how drippy and messy their sandwiches were. Good way to ruin shirts!:P

...and El Pollo Loco...
I forgot all about THEM! They don't have those in Raleigh either, but we had one not too far from us when we still lived in CA, used to eat there all the time. Good stuff.
Anyone have a Salsa Fresh near them? There was one that was fairly close before we moved to the other side of town, they make THE best nachos that I've ever gotten at a fast food place. The only ones that come close are the ones you get at Qdoba, and while those are good, they're still not quite as good as what we used to get at Salsa Fresh. Yum!
Okay, now I'm hungry, how soon until lunch? :P

I'm tempted to go with taco bell. Hardees is the all time best its expensive yes but you get what you pay for. Out of all those Wendy's is the worst.
I believe the place you call Hardee's is what we in Arizona call Carl's Jr. and they have the most awesome food! I have to agree that Wendy's is NASTY. Except for their Frosty's with fries dipped in them. YUM! Nothing like a french fry dipped in chocolate Frosty.
Chick-Fil-A!!! they are always playing Call My Name in there :D
They also partially sponsored the MBT as I found out.
Favorite burger place is in n out. They have scripture on their wrappers too. :) I like taco bell too.
In'N'Out is the BESTEST! I totally love their double doubles and their fries are so fresh!
I like to call it Taco Hell......Love their meximelts but no one can ever make a consistent 7 layer...
....if we're home - DQ or subway
Oh man I remember the first time I ever tried DQ. It was in San Antonio. We only have I think one DQ that serves food here in Tucson. I love their burgers!
I put "other" because my fave is this local place called Pat's Chili dogs. You can get a chili dog with mustard and onions for $1.19!! And their fries are to DIE for!

Hardee's used to be my favorite place back in Missouri. Now that I live in Texas, they're called Carl's Jr. (Carl's bought Hardee's back when I was in HS-we started calling Hardee's Stardee's.) and its not quite as good down here. But that may be the fact that they're mostly attached to Love's truck stops. There's a bit of a stigma attached to that.
I always judge a fast food place on its chicken sandwiches too. I'm afraid of fast food hamburger.

I have no idea what a whataburger is, but *sigh* I do miss having a Jack in the Box around the corner. Another place that Raleigh DOESN'T have  . But there's one in Concord, not too far from Doug's, so it's not been 15 years since I had something from there, but we've only gone there once. Love their curly fries.
I've been enjoying McD's breakfast a few mornings a week...eggs, sausage and biscuit.....but I really like Subway's Spicy Italian sandwich and Anna LOVES their turkey!

Oooh, the Spicy Italian BMT! I rarely get anything else from them. What's interesting is their Italian Cold Cut Combo is one of the "$5 Footlongs" but not the BMT. So I tried the Cold Cut Combo instead. What the heck is the difference? Pretty much tasted the same to me.
Did break down and try their Chicken Pizziola Sunday night. D got the meatball sub, and we split them in half and shared. Neither one was as good as the Italian BMT (or the Cold Cut Combo), IMHO.

My son is crazy about Wendy's, but I much prefer Chic-Fil-A or Zaxby's. We have a Five Guys here, but it's not a drive through. You can split an order of their fries and the hamburgers are excellent. Taco Bell is good for a soft taco or a meximelt. Zaxby's has the best grilled chicken salad ever! One of their signs says we recommend the chicken, the chicken or the chicken. :D

Usually I'll make a run to Taco Bell when our backup supply of the various sauces (we usually swipe 4 or 5 of each version each time we go, and then bag them up to use on other things later) starts to run low. What's funny is that I actually never use the taco bell sauces ON the taco bell food. :P
Love the little quotes they've been putting on the packages lately. Pretty funny stuff to be talked to by your hot sauce. :D

I miss Biff Burger. My favorite was a double dipped cheese biff and tator tots. Actually, there is still a Biff Burger in St Pete, I just might have to drive there this weekend and have me some.
Anyone remember Burger Queen? Another gone goodie!
