TOUCHDOWNS!!!

I just saw this (http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=862709) on yahoo, and thought I would post it. The winning coach is taking some heat for this. My thoughts are, if your starters can't stop the opponents 2nd and 3rd string players, you have nothing to complain about at the other team.

Note about the story, the coach is taking some heat because parents of 1st stringplayers are complaining that their kids wern't getting enough playing time to pad their stats.

Really kinda of funny since ther are some many games across the country that have similar scores. I saw the scores of 2 games in Nebraska last weekend that had scores in the 80's.

The coach is taking heat from parents on both sides. The parents on the winning side complaining are way over the line. Blow-out games are naturally for the bench-warmers.

He deserves some heat. This isn't the pros. These are kids who are supposed to be learning about sportsmanship and competition. Humiliating someone is not building character.

So you would advise the 3rd string QB to start kneeling the ball every down, even when the game may only be in the 3rd quarter? Some of these kids don't ever get to play but in games like this. I highly doubt they were throwing the ball. Probably they were just running the ball and the other team couldn't stop them.

Is that what I said? Did I say that?

No, but that is what I assumed you meant. How else are you supposed to not score points besides kneeling the ball or punting on first down?

The coach was trying to take it easy on the opposing team. Some of his first string players never saw the field, except from the bench. Even some of the second string players were pulled so as not to run up the score Even the loosing coach does not blame the winning coach, he saw that it was not intentional.

This is football and although sometimes it is intentional this time it was not.

Don't assume things.

I did not say the coach should be fired, or suspended, or disciplined, or even ashamed of himself. But he should catch some flak for this. This is not professional football or even college football where billions are being made. This is purely amateur football, as a part of the NFHS it is about a lot more than winning or losing.

Clearly, the coach had some control because the team only scored 3 touchdowns in the second half. They did in fact pass the ball at least some - including what looks to me like their last TD of the 1st half. I'm not sure if a running clock was ever implemented but that would have helped once the game's outcome was not in doubt. Turnover returns for TDs aren't necessary - there is nothing that says you can't simply dive on a fumble, or call a fair catch on a punt. I'm just saying. Although, certainly you do want guys who aren't in there to get some experience... how valuable is it playing against a team with only 25 players? It's not like the winning team is oging to be able to takea w hole lot away from this game either.

Hey Sam not wanting to argue over a game:P

The largest difference in a High School game is 247 to 0, if I am not mistaken. I do believe that was set in 1947 and this coach was trying to run the score up, rival tit for tat thing as I remember.

Regardless of the points scored or why or how, its football. Nuff said.

some starters didnt even play!

this coach deserves no flack. The coach of the losing team isnt upset. the players of the losing team werent upset.

Sam, if you were 4th string and never got to play, would you just dive on a fumble once you got in the game? I highly doubt it.
