Am looking for something new to read. Have you read anything really exciting lately? I need something I can develop a seriously disturbing obsession about, so maybe a series or trilogy you've gotten into? Looking for nonfiction, not really into bodice rippers (that's my mom), but almost anything else goes. Mystery, suspense, westerns, gothic horror my secret guilty pleasure (okay, maybe not so secret now). Help!

Right now I'm reading Obsessed by Ted Dekker. It's pretty decent.

Twilight series - I can't believe that Rhonda (TN3Dmom) hasn't been on here to talk about those. I am thinking about reading them next when I have some free time. About March I think?
:P
If you like crime novels, Patricia Cornwell has a good Scarpetta series. "All That Remains" is one I can think of. "Book of the Dead." I have them all on my shelf but can only see those two from here.

If you're looking for non-fiction, I would recommend any book by Craig Gross.
Make sure you check out the Book Club (http://www.thirdday.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=498) forum as well for even more suggestions.
Have you read the Orianus Creation Series? It's a trilogy of Christian Science Fiction written by D. Shane Burton (Christchild here on the boards!) It's a really great series that will make you think. Book titles are: Black Storm Rising, When Worlds Rage, & Dark Tyrant's Ascension.
Also, our fearless mod Jason has written a book of devotional material called Just Passing Through: Notes from a Fellow Traveler

Stephenie Meyer
You should definitely read them, Beth. Obsession is highly likely, if not inevitable.

A good non-fiction quick read is "Under and Alone" by William Queen. He's an ATF agent who went undercover to infiltrate the Mongols motorcycle gang. Very interesting book.

The Jason Bourne series by Robert Ludlum. They are nothing like the movies. Seriously......the only common thing is Jason Bourne has amnesia. He hunts Carlos the Jackal in the Bourne Identity.
Jason(hates when Hollywood neuters books beyond recognition!)

Another great set of cat mystery books is the Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy. I picked up my first one because the Joe, the cat on the cover, looked just like my Ozzy. :) It would be helpful to read the first one in the series first, to help quasi explain why Joe the cat can talk, but it's not imperative.
James Patterson writes great crime solving (but cat free ;) ) novels. The ones with Alex Cross are good, as well as the ones (I think he's up to 7 or 8 on these) with Lindsay Boxer and the Women's Murder Club.

I, myself, love reading biographies and autobiographies and stuff with humor. I can't think of any good titles, though.
Allot of my reading material is Elvis (Presley) related so....that prolly wouldn't interest you.

I was thinking the same thing. LOL! I want to read them as soon as I finish with Les Miserables and at that rate I'm going, that will be in another 12 months because that's how long its taken me to read half of it!
I did, however, take the summer off of reading that and read some fantastic Classics! Wuthering Heights, Treasure Island *more like an after noon read for me, so short!*, The Hound of the Baskervilles *GREAT book*, and The Secret Garden. My current obsession has been the Classics. Well that's been my obsession for the past three years. More than a passing phase, I imagine. :P

I cant recall her being an animal person. I do know that she loved my aunt's help dog Dotty(my aunt has MS) and she did like Poncho my sisters dog(who is dead now)
Actually that book series was one of the last she read and if I remember right we had to take her books back to the library after she went Home and one of those books was in the pile.

Indeed there is. There's also a movie version of The Road coming out as well, which I'm looking forward to.
Another good book of note, if you're sports-inclined, is "Clemente" by David Maraniss. It's about Roberto Clemente, of course; probably my favorite ballplayer of all time, who died on a mission of charity. Amazing talent, sad ending.

I really like books by Adriana Trigiani http://www.adrianatrigiani.com/
Esp. Big Sone Gap, Big Cherry Holler and Milk Glass Moon.
Also Lorna Lanvik. She's a Norwegian American I believe, and a lot of her books have roots in Norway. http://www.randomhouse.com/author/results.pperl?authorid=16 619
I would say she's my fave author.

Well, as far as intensity goes... I love anything Frank Peretti writes. Monster, House (written with Ted Dekker) very creepy, Prophet... I've read all of his books. Just really good stuff. But for the ultimate creep out - just grab some Poe. It's pure genius. All of them. I also highly recommend The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.
HOWEVER, my true passion is British Literature from the Romantic Period. The moment I picked up my first Jane Austen novel I was hooked! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Bronte Sisters (Charlotte and Emily) Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights. I am a hopeless romantic and there's just nothing more romantic than British leading men! Except my husband of course ;)
I don't know if you're into poetry but take a gander at Wordsworth and Dickinson. Really, really beautiful...
I recently finished As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. It was really great, too. Completely different than anything I have read before. :)
