Concert Photo Contest
The guitar solo. The blur of the drum sticks. The charismatic smile of the lead singer. Now you can show us your best concert photo in our Concert Photo Contest. The winner of this photography contest will receive a prize and also be entered in a drawing for a special prize at the conclusion of all the photography contests. The special grand prize is a sealed cassette of Third Day's indie album Contagious and the winner's choice of an art print from Jason's artwork at:

Rules:
1. Stating the obvious, but for the sake of having complete rules: Any photo you submit MUST have been taken by you and you alone.
2. You may only submit one photo.
3. The subject of the photo must be part of a concert.
4. The photo must be under 100kb. If you need help with resizing, please send a private message to Jason.
5. You must e-mail your people photo to Jason at jason@jasonmitchener.com between Monday, September 8th, at 12:01 AM Eastern Standard Time and Tuesday, September 9th, at 9:59 pm Eastern Standard Time.
6. You must also send Jason a private message on the Third Day Message Board informing him that you sent a photo submission e-mail.
7. A poll will be posted with entries by Wednesday September 10th. The poll will end three days later.
8. The winner of the poll will win the Concert Photo Contest.
9. For fair play, please don’t contact your friends to vote for your photo. All entries will be posted in the poll without the photographer’s name. Let’s keep this contest based on great photos, not on photographers with lots of friends.
10. Have fun!
Please direct any questions to Jason in this thread or by sending him a private message.

And Rule 11: No FUTURE photos allowed. ;)
I know you always have a good reason the few times the polls get posted later than planned, and normally I'm not impatient to see them, but hopefully the pics will be up on schedule (on the 10th) for this one, otherwise I won't be able to see or vote for them. I leave for NY on Thursday and won't be back until sometime on Monday, and the motel we're booked at supposedly doesn't have net access. Bringing the laptop just in case though, don't know if I can stand being unplugged that long, LOL.

Thank you, sir! :)
And worst case scenario, if for some reason it's not up yet before I go, I just don't vote this time. I usually just vote for me anyway. So if anyone wants to put in a pity vote for mine while I'm gone, if you notice that it still has zero votes, that would be great. LOL.
:P ;)

Oh good, I have a whole week to pick out my best photo. I have a great pic from Muskegon, but I just skimmed through my pics from the Detroit, and it's going to be a tough choice, so many good ones.

Well, six days.

how about
Rule #12: It has to be a NON-THIRD DAY! picture.
Seems pointless to post a Third Day concert picture for a contest when you have thousands of them in another area of this very board.
I'd rather see a real concert picture be taken seriuosly and possibly win, rather then some fuzzy shot of Mark or Mac, that most honorable photographers would have deleted, win a popularity contest and not the PHOTO contest.
just my 2 cents

Pointless? I totally disagree. Did you see last year's winner? A superb shot of Brad.

I not trying disparage anyone’s shots of Third Day, but I can go into any number of concert threads and find several superb shots of Third Day.
I guess it’s the amateur passion of trying to be original and not post something consistent with popularity, but rather something that stands out from the typical.
Anyone got a great shot of Salvador? Todd Agnew? MWS? Decemberadio?? …etc.
MY plea is that y'all bring something we most likely haven’t seen posted on the Third Day fan appreciation site…

I agree with Jason...last year's winner was an amazing shot...it could have easily been the cover of any magazine. I would have voted for that shot no matter who the band was. And actually, I believe...Jason can correct me if I'm wrong...that the 2nd place shot last year was of Keith Urban.
EDIT: Here's the link to the poll from last year. The 2nd place was indeed Keith Urban. The amazing shot of Brad is the very last picture.

Thanks for posting the link to that thread. I'd forgotten which pic I'd entered last year. Blue Man Group! :D I still love that pic. Apparently I was the only one though. *sigh* Looks like I was marching to the tune of a different, um, drummer :P even in LAST year's contests.
Very happy to see that I hadn't actually entered any of the ones that I am considering for this year in last year's contest.

Rob, you'll probably have to decide, like I do for each round of the contests that I enter, if you want to enter one that you think other people will think is great, or take a chance and enter one that YOU actually think is great.
I'm personally torn between a couple of shots from a 3D show and a couple from a non-3D set. Haven't decided which one to go with yet. I'm sure the 3D shots will most likely have the edge; even if a non-3D shot came in second last year, it was still a shot of Brad that ended up winning. So once again it boils down to whether to put up one that I like, or one that I think someone else will like. I'll thinkthinkthink on that for a few days and when all is said and done, will probably end up going with one that I haven't even thought about yet. :D

Wow, last year's winner definitely could have been mag cover. Excellent!
With all the talent from Music Builds to choose from, it's going to be hard to choose just one. I've got some from Switchfoot and Jars that I like. I guess it's eny meny miny mo time?!?!?!

Well, that's not a problem... I've already posted my feelings on how my pictures are perceived... That also explains why you will not see anymore posted on here.

You shouldn't NOT enter, just because what you think is good and what other people think is good are two different things. I always look forward to seeing what you submit simply because what you enter DOES tend to be different than what most everyone else enters. So even if you submit something that doesn't win, know that you at least make ONE other person happy by entering it anyway. :)

So wait, I'm confused...are we allowed to enter non-Third Day photos? Cause I haven't been to one of their shows, but I have several of different artists from Red Letter Rockfest where I was in FRONT of the front row! ;) Made for some nice photo ops! :)

Still haven't decided which one to enter! :D
Shot a LOT of concert photos over the last four years, of all sorts of bands, have NO idea which one is the best one to enter.

Accepting photos now. Third Day or other bands. I'll even accept comedy concerts .. like if you took a photo of me doing sit-down comedy in the 80s or early 90s.

Maybe to encourage others to think outside the box (granted my methods still need work).
To remind my fellow paparazzi that there are other artists that would make great pictures… that I personally would love to see some shots of other artists I have not seen before.. To see how my fellow photags work their mad skills following an artist other than TD..
(disclaimer: I understand not everyone can go to all sorts of shows, and I’m not speaking ill if you only have Third Day shots. You post your picture! And do it with some pride. I just hope those of my brethren who DO go to multiple shows will take the chance and post some of their other pictures for us to enjoy)
I don’t think it’s negative to push people to look both ways. Asking people to be different, and do the unexpected, and wanting them to get better and try harder. Maybe negative to some, but I’ll keep doing it and hopefully someone will post that picture that makes everyone go: “WHOA who is that!!”
That is my hope…
And only because the skeleton head asked so nicely… ;-) I’ve sent in a submission…

I can't decide. I should send Jason two and let him pick. LOL (JK, I wouldn't do that to him.)
He probably wouldn't go for it anyway.
