Moving this chat to this place as the prayer thing has changed...

If you want to help each other with this, join in!
Andi you're welcome too!

Well, now I've done Andre's room, Nico's room, two homeschooling cupboards - so far I've thrown out 9 or so big black rubbish bags and around 15 grocery bags of paper rubbish!

The cool thing is that now when I'm finding things, there are actually places that are designated for them to go, so they go away straight away!

I had done the Master Bedroom but that has ended up being the place where things go that I don't know where they go yet, so it's pretty bad at the moment! Hopefully I'll get that done before Kevin gets home on September 9th.

The goal of all this is to have a home that I can be in and not feel guilty about the fact that so much needs to be done.

If you can cope with junk mail daily, sign onto the Flylady, she's great and it's all free and she gives you easy ways of beginning and great missions every day - focusing on a particular zone each week and giving you a new habit each month!

I'm not really there with her yet, but after this initial dejunking my way, then I'll join with her... the testimonies are inspiring!

Woo Hoo! I am so proud of you!

I will share a motto of mine (did you ask? oh well! lol):

"If you haven't looked at it in 2 years, get rid of it."

I keep a box for each child to put the really, and I mean really. special things that they do in school or in church. But the rest gets a big "Wow! This is great!" and a big hug to the child that did it, then when they go to bed - into the trash with it!

I know - some people would call that callus, but I call it housekeeping.

:P

I spent 7 hours cleaning my room on Sunday, and things are much more organized now, but not as organized as I'd like them to be. Its been easier to keep things clean now that things have a place.

A heap for everything, and everything in its heap, I always say.

I don't say that,but certainly do it!

The amount of paper I'm throwing away is huge! The little lady that comes around collecting recycling is a happy person at the moment! I think she gets about 10 baht a kilo for it! 30 baht equals one dollar US...

I am still finding stuff we brought over with us from NZ six years ago, stuff I've NEVER used and hardly looked at! Once this is over(if it ever is...) I'm going to get the boys a special box each for 'treasures' so they can all save a little stuff, but hopefully won't be quite the packrats that Kevin and I are... :)

Wow! Do they collect in Thailand??? I think we'd need to go one furlough to raise extra financial support so we could afford for them to come pick up the bag! :) :)

YES! I like that!

A MUCH better quote than "If you haven't looked at it in 2 years, get rid of it." Sorry, Andi! :D

I think it's a thread about cleaning and just getting rid of stuff, Mr. T. Not that I'd know anything ABOUT that, myself, I've still got several boxes of stuff that I cleaned out of my cube at my last job sitting against the wall of my room, that I've not found a place for yet, and I've been at my "new" job for nearly 3 years now. LOL.

And what's scary, is they seem to be multiplying like bunnies. What was just 3 boxes before has become 5, plus several bags. :o :o :o

And don't even ask me about my closet, that's a genuinely scary place!

Funny how that happens. If I ever leave this job I'll need to rent a U-Haul to get all my stuff outta here. ;)

I had a realization yesterday. When we move to NY, I'm going to have to get rid of a LOT. I've got a year, so I'm gunna begin going through things now and getting it all together in a box to sell before we leave. I have a small yard sale collection going right now. Lordy...I have a massive job in front of me.

So, you'd better start now!

I've done some cleaning up yesterday. Lots more to follow.

I'm not cleaning house until I know where Gustov is going.

Gustov?

Hurricane Gustov, currently entering the Gulf of Mexico. We stand a pretty good chance of getting a direct hit. I'm not tidying up until I know whether or not I'm getting blown away.

Yes, I just worked it out. Thanks Beth. It looks scary.

I do need to catch up the laundry, cos we can loose electricity for weeks in the aftermath of one of these things. Then I'll go to the store, then come home and throw the garbage can under the house so it doesn't become a projectile. Yeah, I'm nervous. Pray please.

Just place your trust in God over this. I'd hate to be in a hurricane, but with me being an hr north of Springfield MO, we have to live with the fact a tornado can blow us away too. So I kinda know what your feeling. I'll be praying for you.

One of my closest friends lives in Baton Rouge, LA. She says they're having a hurricane party, what a dork.

NurseBettyLu

But does she know how to make a hurricane? Necessary for a proper hurricane bash.

Wow, that was a pretty quick derailing of my thread.... I'm shocked - stunned - wondering how to get it back!  :P

NurseBettyLu

Okay, I'll try, since it was mostly my fault it went astray. I did wash today and folded everything and put it all away. I threw away eighteen bent-up coat hangers and an iron that doesn't work. Tomorrow I will straighten out the pantry and toss anything that's expired. How's that?

kiwisongbird
08-30-2008, 09:50 PM
Way cool, I haven't done any today, it's so hot and I'm so tired, but tomorrow is always another day...

I stted tidying up all the cds and dvds that live on and around the tv set and player - they get used then left in and they get taken out when someone else puts another in and just left out of their envelopes, lying around the place...sadly that job got interrupted and so now there are piles of them lying around the coffee table in the living room... oh well... maybe tomorrow... or I could do that this evening... only we don't have aircon in the living room and it's so very hot at the moment - great excuse eh? :)

How are you with the hurricane? Hope you're ok.

I'm going to tidy up the pantry later today. Rearrange stuff in the big freezer. Pretty please don't let us loose electricity, I have a whole freezer full of meat and seafood.

kiwisongbird
08-31-2008, 01:47 PM
Have you got loads of newspaper, perhaps you could wrap everything up and put it back in the freezer?

Today I'm going to finish off the living room and try to tackle another homeschooling cupboard! Although the living room does include a huge box of videos... we don't have a player anymore, so I have to decide which ones need to be kept to be put onto DVD and which ones to throw away!

NurseBettyLu

Trying to clean out the pantry, but I think I made things worse rather than better. Generally speaking, power outages post hurricane last days into weeks. You eat what you can, and give away what you can, then count the rest a loss. You can, however, count lost food when you're applying for fema or red cross money. Oh, but I found two battery-operated fans when I dragged everything out of the pantry. Forgot I had those.

SAME HERE! Took out 4 large garbage bags of stuff from Anna's room...and that was just the stuff we threw away! Two more bags of clothes to give away...and about 5 pounds of candy from various holidays in the last few years! My bedroom is the holding room for now....

A heap for everything, and everything in its heap, I always say.

LOL!

That's a good one. I have often suggested this to my customers, when I'm hired to paint, or do drywall for them in an occupied room. Of course, it's a much easier undertaking, when you have someone else moving all your furniture for you.

It's also a good way to, as the author puts it, get into those corners usually covered by stuff. Out of sight is out of mind, and usually, you reel in horror at what you haven't had to see. That, or you make a discovery of some long lost treasure that you thought was gone for good.

My workspace is usually not a problem. I'm almost ocd about having my workspace in order. However, my house looks like it was trashed by a pro.
