Hi loons! Oh, and Hi Jason, our loon-in-denial. Wow, our area is getting a lot of bad weather from Ike! Wild, huh! Wind's been howling a gale all day. The roast last night was incredible, will post recipe.

Hi Beth. When will it be at its worst?
NurseBettyLu
09-11-2008, 11:42 AM
Landfall expected in the Galveston, Texas area Saturday morning. So all we're getting is some of the outer feeder bands. But the wind and flooding in this area has been a lot more intense than anybody expected
sandie
09-11-2008, 11:43 AM
Thanks. I read yesterday that it was expected in the Galveston area. Just wasn't sure when.

Where art thou, Beka?
One of my cats is heavy, too, but with fur. Darcy's Winter coat is so thick, and becoming knotty. She's a Chinchilla, so there's an awful lot of fur. And she's quite pretty. I'll have to tackle her with the clippers, now it's warming up.
I'm doing four days a week temp teaching from next week, and might have a fifth day (Friday), after a phone call just now from another college. It depends what they're willing to pay! :P

Btw, heimlich is no longer official protocol for choking, Now it's several sharp blows between the shoulder blades and diaphram thrusts. And tickling the victim until he/she pees their pants. Okay, I made up the tickling part. But it does sound like more fun than heimlich.

Went with two friends to Parramatta, the second largest centre in Sydney. Had Italian pizzas which were delicious. Love those prawns! The gelato at an ine-cream place, then walked through Parramatta Park, to the historic Governors residence. A great, but hot day. :D

If only it was that nice here. Our normal spring temps are like in the high 90's and we usually hit 100 around April.
Does anyone else dislike Sunday morning radio preachers? :P I can't stand that officious, preachy tone. Just turned the man off at 8am.
I generally get very boared with any and all radio preachers. Or really any preachers save for the one I grew up listening to. I agree about the officious tone though, lots of the early morning guys seem to have it.

I'm taking another temp class - Elementary - at the college where I took 3 weeks and finished a week ago. (This is where Jonathan/Joe used to be the Director of Studies.) New class, and I want to take them to the Sydney Olympics Parade, which goes straight past the door today. If they like the idea, we can go to Sydney Town Hall to watch the athletes get the key to the City.

Oh no, you only missed Tony's incredible driving skills!!! I am not convinved Tony Stewart is the best driver to EVER walk this earth.
He had a problem in the pits and had to go back, Sauter got to close and Tony and he bumped fenders. Tony went back to the pits and ended up 34th. He drove his BUTT off and got back to 19th, when he had a pit penalty and had to go back through the pits, putting him a lap down. So here's Tony, the 5th or 6th car not on the lead lap. He races his way back to 2nd car not on the lead lap and on a restart, overtakes Almirola to become the first car a lap down. This is when he gets a huge break and there's a caution moments after he passes Almirola. So Tony's back on the lead lap, but down in 20th with about 60 to go. In those 60 or so laps Tony drove his way back to 8th and a top 10 finish!!! AND he ended up gaining a spot in the standings to 7th, he went into this race 8th.
He's my little loon cat. A source of high entertainment.

Some states have emissions laws, so you go to a testing center to see if your car passes the emissions requirements. If it fails the emissions test, repair is required before you can renew the license tag.

What? An ex-Loon king?
I had coffee with Joe yesterday. Did you know that a very handsome man, working twelve hour days, and unable to take time off work to get over a cold, looks just as bad as the rest of us? :P

Flyby. Overslept. Our clinical director called and chewed me out for my lack of professionalism, and told me I wasn't a team player. I said fine, show me a team and I'll play.

What does it mean
I know the expression 'cup of Joe' from the Boards, which is appropriate since we always have a cuppa together. If he keeps working 12 hours a day, I will refer to Joe as 'the ghost who walks.' :P
