I have been listening to Revelation since launch and I've had the most trouble with Born Again. I love the song tremenously and have been thinking about doing it for my worship service soon. However, I'm at a tug of war with the meaning. I thought maybe we can talk through it a little here. I don't like to present a song until I'm confident in it's full meaning.

I'm a Born Again believer. I also believe in Eternal Security of the Saints. What I get from this song is a picture of a lost soul accepting Christ. But I also find that it's more for me. To mean it's about a state of mind that you enter, whether you've been saved 10 days or 10 years. It's about understanding God's all encompassing forgivness and realizing that you are a new creature.

Anyway, as I'm prepare the song, I thought I'd like to get some thoughts from others. It's very common that what I can get out of a song is completely different from someone else, that really is the beauty of music in the first place. So, please, share you thoughts on this song and what your interpretation would be. Also, if anyone has "official" descriptions from the band please share as well.

Hi there & welcome to the boards!

Personally, to me, the song gives the feeling of someone who has rediscovered their passion for the Lord. They know what it feels like to be "born again" in the first place, & now have recaptured that feeling. That's what it sounds like, to me, anyway.

Here's what Mac & Tai had to say about it at http://www.jesusfreakhideout.com/lyrics/new/track.asp?track_id=10508

Behind the Song:“I was doing some chores at home. I was sitting down on the floor folding laundry and I had that song in my head. All of a sudden it just came out--a full first verse literally. It wasn’t like I said a line and worked out a few other lines, it literally just came out. I just spoke it and sang it and it scared me because that never happens. So I got up and I was running around the house, throwing stuff everywhere looking for a pen and a piece of paper and [my wife] Aimee says, ‘What are you doing?’ and I said, ‘I’ve got this song and I’ve got to write it down right now.’” – Mac Powell (Third Day)

“That’s a very Christian expression, ‘born again,’ but it’s become a cliché also, but this song, like “Revelation”, sort of digs beneath the cliché. It’s actually what born again is supposed to mean, that experience and that feeling of getting a fresh start. What a great sentiment! I think that’s a sentiment and a feeling that people need to experience.” – Tai Anderson (Third Day)
