I think I've got two consecutive threads started.

Here is the link to what I started in the Revelation forum.

Some of us like to bounce back and forth.

I've been keeping an eye on this one. I put up a promo countdown widget on my myspace page.

It's about time somebody made a movie about something that was important. Nothing against Batman, but I'm more concerned about healthy marriages.

Amen and amen! This will be worth the price of admission!

too bad, like facing the giants, that it will be a huge cheesefest that most people will scoff at.

Pains me but I have to agree with you here. It was pretty corny.

Those who scoffed were probably the same ones who hail movies with fantasy themes, explosions, murder, etc. "A great movie, that lets you escape day to day life, and immerse yourself in the mind of such and such director".

No thanks.

I know what you mean, but, is it really a knock on the movie, or on society?

Actually... in this case... the movie. I think you can make movies with great messages without being hokey and corny. For example... some of the Veggie Tales movies are HILARIOUS... I'm being totally serious. The humor that's woven in for adults make those movies a pleasure to watch with the youngins'. It can be done, it just wasn't done in Facing the Giants. Maybe this Fireproof movie will hit the target.

Facing the Giants, while it had a good message was really a C movie at best. But that's just my opinion.

I agree.

Which is why we should support efforts like these. More support, more budget. More budget, better movies.

I agree. Facing the Giants had quite poor acting. But it is possible to make a movie with a Christian theme that is not corny and full of poor acting. For and example, see Amazing Grace. The was one of the best movies I've seen, and had a great message. Ioan Gruffudd played William Wilberforce, the main character, and did a great job, but even better in my opinion was Albert Finney's portrayal of John Newton. Another movie with a great message and not corny is The Ultimate Gift. Abigail Breslin was amazing in that one.

EDIT: But who knows, maybe Kirk Cameron can bring a little better acting to the table and make it less corny than Facing the Giants.

I haven't seen Flywheel.

IMO Kirk and Ray Comfort do a good job teaching evangelism through the Way of the Master program.

Flywheel was good. I liked it. I also liked Facing the Giants. I thought Flywheel was better, though. I am looking forward to seeing this one. :)

Exactly!!! When I saw the line "From the makers of "Facing the Giants.." I cringed. What a horrible movie that was.

somebody has to be the voice of reason.

either way, this goes back to my big thing about making art and labeling it christian. and usually, that art sucks compared to "secular" art.

Anyone had a chance to see it yet? Cheese or no? My wife and I are considering it.

I think it's hard nowdays to make something with a positive message that doesn't somehow come across as cheese. We can glorify sex, drugs, gangs, any sort of deviant behavior (unless that deviant behavior is loving the unlovable that's true rebellion but not accepted by society) and it's COOL. But doing good seems too uncool.

Kinda off topic. Has anyone seen the movie Return to Paradise? Not a spiritual movie, but it touched me. $.02 review is this -- a guy gets sentenced to a foreign jail for carrying his friend's luggage which contained drugs. Friend leaves country and allows his friend to take his punishment (some friend). Guy who should be in jail finally comes back and his friend currently in jail decides to stay in jail and take his friends sentence, even though he doesn't deserve it. Sound familiar -- someone taking punishment they don't deserve?

Finally went and saw it. It was ok. Mostly I had a problem with the acting -- not great. Although I did like Caleb's (Kirk Cameron) dad. I found some of it too preachy at times. Although not sure you can do a Christian movie without being preachy. BTW -- anyone notice the nurse at the ER? I think she's a sister of Caleb's wife.

Plot was good with some nice twists and turns. I won't ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but there were a few good surprises.

I liked the music. Third Day was in there 2x with Otherside and This is Who I Am. I like the song how you don't crumble in a day -- maybe Casting Crowns?

I support Christian films because I think it's important to show Hollywood there is a market out there for something other than trash.

Anyone catch Dr Phil Fireproof show? It was pretty good. He had some firefighters and cops on talking about the stress of the job and how it affects marriage. Then he had Kirk and producers on talking about the movie.

Yesterday afternoon is when I finally saw it. Was one of the few days a bunch of us from my church could actually all go to see it. Closer to the end of the movie I was sitting there just getting choked up, then looked down the line of people to some of the other guys and they're just watching it. It had some really good humor in it and yeah...was a good movie.

"Slow Fade"- Casting Crowns. So glad to hear Third Day songs on it! Yeah, the music was good. I really liked the movie myself.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly & feel that I should show up and support films like this one. That's why this was the first movie in quite a while I felt the need to see at the theater versus just waiting to rent it. Glad I did!

I really enjoyed the movie. Also, I know I'm way behind, but I just saw "Facing the Giants" this weekend. I know some folks didn't like it, but say what you will....I LOVED IT! :)

Im going to bring this thread back from the dead and just say that I watched this last night and was impressed. Given the hideous acting in "Facing the Giants" I had low expectations for "FireProof." Boy was I wrong! Rhiannon and I adopted a child recently and like with any major change in a family, stress was leaking in to our marriage like gas waiting to blow up from a match. Watching this movie was a refresher and in a way restored my faith in Christian art, and gave rhiannon and I a sense of hope. Hope that no matter what happens in the future with my son Evan, God will not give up on Him, or on our marriage. Neither will we!
