Just got back a little bit ago from the concert at Walnut Creek here in Raleigh. GREAT show! Everyone in all the bands have definitely aged a bit (30 years will do that to you, I guess :P ). But could still rock out with the best of them.
The Cheap Trick-sters were just a goofy as always, Ann Wilson still can really belt out a song, and the new guy in Journey really DOES sound just like Steve Perry. Great night.
Anyone go see this tour?
My sister was buying, and got the four pack of lawn seats, but I still managed to get some really great shots; if anyone is interested, I can resize a few to post here.

We went! Journey was really good, better than I expected. And Heart is always awesome! This was the first time I've ever seen Cheap Trick. Wow! Loved them.

I'm still amazed at how much the new guy sounds like Steve Perry. What are the odds of two people with that unique voice sounding THAT much alike? Still cracks me up that they found him via YouTube though! :P

Apparently, Boston found their new singer the same way! Saw it on some tv show last week. This is an era in which anything can happen! :)
Isn't Micheal Sweet the new lead singer for Boston? He was with Stryper for a long time!

I saw Journey over 20 years ago and to this day it remains one of the best shows I have seen. I have heard good things about the new singer but have a hard time believing he could be anywhere near as good as Steve Perry. Maybe I'll have to see if I can find some footage from them on Youtube. And I love that Cheap Trick is still touring. They were one of the first bands I listened to. Live at Buddokhan is still one of the best live albums ever.

OK I just checked out some videos on youtube of Journey with new singer Arnel Pineda and I have to admit that I am very impressed. He can't quite hit the high notes like Steve Perry but still very good. I would pay to see him.
On a different note. I forgot to mention that on the tour that I saw Journey in the 80s their bass player was none other than Randy Jackson, as in future American Idol host. Had I known his future I might have tried to see if at any point in between songs wheter Mr Jackson made any comments to Steve Perry about his singing being "a little pitchy, dog."

I went! It was absolutely incredible! I went to a LOT of concerts this summer and that one definitely ranked among the best! Arnel is awesome!!! :)

He IS, isn't he. I was really impressed with his energy, the way he was all OVER that stage, and the way he connected with the audience.
And the fact that he sounds so much like Steve Perry is still just amazing. Journey was able to keep their signature sound even without their signature singer. The older songs sounded great.
And of course, I've always been a fan of Jonathan Cain, and thought he was aging very nicely. ;)
I deleted most of my concert pics from the office PC, but still have these two left, from midway back on the lawn seats at Walnut Creek...

Thanks. I was getting REALLY frustrated being back that far, kept getting people walking in front of us, and heads in the way all the time, but my sister was paying for the tickets, so I couldn't really complain.
I've got a Nikon Coolpix 8800. It's a little big to try and stealth it into a venue, but for the most part, since it's a point and shoot and not a "professional" camera, I normally don't have any problems using it once I get it in the door. I like it because it goes from completely automatic to completely manual, depending on what I need. And it's got a 10x optical/4x digital zoom on it, which is just GREAT for concerts, since I can go from this:

to THIS (if I hold really REALLY still and don't breathe):
93125
Definitely more than a little grainy at maximum zoom (and my kingdom for a tripod, since I don't have the steadiest hands in the world), but I'll take it. I'd never have seen the killer rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail sitting on Bun E Carlos's bass drum otherwise. I cracked up when I got home and saw that. :D

That's awesome! I'm definitely in the market for a new camera, or to learn more about how to use mine! Hehehe....I can go manual on mine (I have a Canon Powershot SD750), but even then, it doesn't seem to have many options.
My friend was taking pics of my dad and brothers at their gig tonight and they were awesome! I asked her what kinda camera it was (Canon EOS for $1300)....yeah it'll be a while before I get that one hehehe

I think mine was something like $900+ when I bought it at Amazon 3 years ago. They're less than half that now, I just checked, and they're selling them for $399.
I like it because of the zoom, the fact that I like how it handles video clips (the little Samsung that I bought for my trip to NY next week cannot handle the audio at concerts and just distorts the heck out of it, plus every time you zoom, what little audio there is cuts out, something I'm glad I found out BEFORE actually bringing it to Music Builds in a few weeks), and the one thing that sold me on it over what I nearly bought - a Panasonic Lumix with a 12x zoom - and that was the ability to do time exposures. I do a lot of astronomy photos, and time exposures are a very handy thing to be able to do. The Lumix didn't offer that, so I sacrificed 2x of zoom and went with the Nikon instead.
Great camera. LOTS of features, something like 4 screens of different menu options, most of which I still don't know how to use yet. But the more I use it, which is a LOT, the better I like it. :)

Yeah I'm thinking I should just get a lens for mine and that may help some...of course you can't take that to concerts, but for the rest of my photography, it'd be nice to have. My camera actually does REALLY well with the videos too which I love! The sound quality is awesome! Even at my bro's gigs when I'm right next to the speaker, it comes out nice and clear!

So you've got a DSLR? My sister said I should have gotten one of those, that they're so much better, which I know they are, but didn't want to have to deal with the extra lenses which most venues won't let you use anyway. And since half the shooting I was planning to do with it was concerts, I thought getting one where it's just all one piece, and the zoom tucks neatly inside, would be a good idea.
I think the Nikon's only real flaw is that it's a darn chunky camera for a point and shoot. And the manual focus controls are kind of clunky. Other than that, I've been really happy with it.
Wish I could take it with me to NY, but nothing says "I'm a tourist, mug me" more than a monster camera hanging around your neck (well, maybe the camera plus socks with your sandals and plaid shorts. LOL) So I bought the little Samsung when it was on sale at Circuit City a few months back. It's actually got more features than the Nikon (face recognition, self portrait mode, etc.) but does very badly at concerts (only a 3X zoom, and that really cheap microphone for the video). But for regular day to day use, it works great, so I figure it'll be great for the trip, nice and small, and the appropriate body color for taking it to the baseball game: Mets blue. :D
