Live life to the full is a poor message for a monk.

My son, however, may LOVE his one, thanks!

I don't know much about the supposed ideals of Catholic monks, but I do think that living life to the fullest is not necessarily a contradiction to these ideals. It actually depends on what you understand under "living life to the fullest", imho.

Especially Metal fans see their music as a very important tool for being able to live life to the fullest.Metal is simply seen as something that helps you to relax and from which you can gain a lot of strength, but there is much more to it. Most Heavy Metal gigs are marked by an astonishingly high degree of friendliness! Seriously, you would have to try REALLY hard to get into trouble at a Metal gig! I'd even go so far to say that there is a sense of community and togetherness that would put most Christian communities to shame, imho! :o Heck, if you ask me then most Metal fans are just a bunch of overly large kids who only want to play so to say! http://www.nsaheadquarters.info/images/laugh007.gifhttp://www.nsaheadquarters.info/images/smile005.gif

My guess is that this monk felt that spirit of togetherness. I don't think that he really understood it on a conscious level, but I do think that he understood that there is something in the Metal scene that is actually quite positive! I also think that God is using him to show the secular Metal scene that finding to God does not necessarily require them to give up their music, which is also very important, I think. I mean, I already hinted at it at the beginning of my post, but I have to say it again: Heavy Metal music is a VERY essential part of most Metal fans! The connection to this music can go to such a deep level that it tends to require some kind of miracle to destroy it! Sometimes it happens that God finds it necessary to destroy this connection to Heavy Metal after all of course, but it is not the norm I think.

For most Christians who also happen to be Metal fans something else seems to happen and that is a connection between the testosterone crazed Metal music and their faith. The product is usually a faith that goes wayyy deeper and that is wayyyy more innocent than most 'regular' Christians seem to assume.

(Note: I am talking about the European Metal scene here! I don't really have a clue as to how things are in the USA!)
