I ruled out Ipod because of the insane prices and such and I dont want to deal with ITunes. I want to stay within the limit of $70 possibly 80. I dont need all the bells and whistle but I would like one with an Ipod like cataloging system for my music library.

I want to get a good reliable brand. I dont know which brands are good and which ones are not so good

Can any of you guys give me any links or advice

thanks much

I would recommend something from SanDisk...I've had a Sansa e250, for a few years and love it. That one's a little more expensive(it was close to the old nano), but something like this might be more what you're looking for:

You ruled out iPod, but my wife and I recently got a free iPod Shuffle 2 GB (2bd geberatuib) for trying a new bank and we like it. The 2 GB model I think is in your price range. Google shopping search for iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen. (http://www.google.com/products?q=ipod+shuffle+2&btnG=Search+Products)

SanDisk certainly are not a bad choice as danbos has already mentioned. My personal reccomendation would be for a CREATIVE. These guys make good quality products and I have been very satisfied with mine.

Don't buy an ipod. They break.

As for iTunes, I use it all the time. Creative MP3 players will accept songs from itunes as long as you rip their songs to CD first and then copy them onto your MP3.

Any player should actually do that I think. Once you burn iTunes tracks to CDR, it apparently wipes out the DRM and once you rip them back off the CD you should be able to use them anywhere.

Great when you download a whole CD worth of tunes from them at once, it makes burning them to CD worthwhile then, but kind of a pain when you only download a couple of songs, and have to blow a whole CD just to free up 2 tracks to put on your portable mp3 player. That's pretty much why the only time I download anything from iTunes is if they have something exclusive that you can only get from them. I've got credit for three or four songs sitting in my email that I got from ordering from Ticketmaster, and haven't bothered to use them yet, for that very reason.

This is so awesome. My account manager got me a 4G Fuze for Xmas.

I'll need some help with the file transfer Karen.

Used Windows Explorer but it must know the files are coming out of iTunes and wouldn't let them in.

Do I create a folder for each album?

Do I create a folder for each artists and then a sub-folder for each of that artist's albums?

It is actually maroon and not red.

Must be a bad photo as that's not maroon, says the maroon and gold Sun Devils fan.

I forgot this thread even existed haha. I got an 4GB RCA OPAL. If fact I just started using it again a couple of days ago now that I got some new headphones.

Each player handles files and file transfers differently, and I play mine on a PDA (which for me just boils down to using Explorer to transfer them to an SD or CF card, in whatever directory structure I choose, and just using some third party player software on the PDA to play them back), so I'm pretty ignorant about how any dedicated player does it.

But I just googled "4G Fuze itunes" just to see what came up, and apparently, it's back to burning any itunes music that you have to a CD first and then transferring them to the Fuze by whatever means the instructions tell you how to do it.

Apparently, according to one website: "Though Sansa Fuze supports various audio formats, it doesn't support playback of iTunes music, whether it's protected or not."

The site (http://www.noteburner.com/itunes-music-on-sandisk-sansa-fuze.html) is selling a program for something like $34 that supposedly simulates the CD burning process without actually having to burn a CD, but sheesh, you could go ahead and burn an awful lot of CDs to free up the music by the time you pay them for their program.

Now I just joined Rhapsody using the mini-CD-ROM with the Fuze.

Did it convert my music into Rhapsody? (I'll know soon...)

You get 14 days free. Does anyone pay $15 a month for Rhapsody?

I used to. Nothing wrong with the service, I just don't have much time to use it now. But it's worth the 15 dollars a month, just so you can listen to whatever you want. Even better if you can plug it into your car.
