Did anyone notice that Journey has found a new lead singer (sounds just like Steve Perry) from YouTube and published a CD titled Revelation?

Just wondering what the Third Day management company is doing with this little nugget from a marketing standpoint.

There is only one Revelation CD to purchase this year, and it won't be a rehash of hits from an '80s band. :)

 Yes, I saw that at Sam's Club the other day. I use to be a Journey fan, back in the day, but there is only one "Revelation" for me now!

Hey fellow Virginian!!! :D
I had heard about that too!!! Well, I only plan to purchase one CD this year called Revelation. I am sure you can guess which one that is. BTW, what ever happened to Steve Perry. Now that guy had a set of pipes. He was almost as good as Mac, but not quite!!!!! :D

He sure did! Here's part of an interview with Steve Perry:

As a singer, were you dealing with a different set of demands?
Well, what I’m about to say—I’m gonna come across as a prima donna, but if there’s any singers out there reading this at this point, they’ll understand completely. You must put that in there, the preface, because it’s important. Everybody thinks singers are prima donnas. And to a degree I guess we are. But at the same time, the difference between a voice and fingers, or hands, is neurotic at best. When someone’s fingers get calluses on them, the guitar doesn’t hurt so bad. It feels better. Same for the bass. Same for the piano player, when his fingers get callused and strong. When a drummer gets calluses on his hands, they no longer chafe and they no longer blister, and that’s fantastic. The moment a singer gets one callus, he’s finished. Singers live on the edge of being powerful, being strong, and not degrading their voice, and it’s the most difficult edge to walk. You feel like you’re on a high-wire all the time. And the pressure of walking in front of an audience every night, and wanting to be what you know they want you to be, and what you want to be for them, and to have this silly little thing in your throat that’s about as neurotic as you are, is difficult. So it can make any singer a little crazy. It can make you just live your life in a state of insecurity and fear. Until you walk out there and open your mouth, and you see what you got, and then it tells you if it’s gonna be a fun evening or not.

And I imagine it’s much harder to take care of it.
Well, how do you do that and use it at the same time? It’s a very fine line. Like I said, using it can cause the problem. Using your fingers makes ‘em better. So it’s always a fine, artful dance. So at the end of a night, you feel great. I delivered what I wanted to do, I hit the notes, I feel good about it—but you don’t know how much you used up until tomorrow morning. And the tickets have already been sold. The next show is sold out. Only one night did I have to have a shot of B12 with an anti-inflammatory. That was in Dallas, Texas, because I got to a sound check and realized that people were lined up outside and I had half a voice. So that night we got a doctor to give me a shot. Which singers will do a lot—but I only had to do it once.

I just recently over last summer became a die hard fan of Journey! They are such an awesome band and one of my inspirations, but they will never replace Third Day as my original musical inspiration...Arnel Pineda (new lead singer) is no Steve Perry but is just as incredible and it gives a new "revelation" for the band, which is most likely why they titled their album that. Third Day wrote the song Revelation which is what gave them their title. Overall they are two different bands, two different genres so it's nothing to worry about! :D Besides now a days, Third Day is more popular than Journey...Journey was the 70's and 80's it's now 2008 so it's all good. Has anyone heard Journey's new cd? It's so good!!!

Steve Perry had to leave the band, because the songs were too hard for him to sing by the mid 80's and the band said it's a part of Journey to sing the high notes, and he just couldn't do it. So there was a fight in the band and he left, some people think Neal Schon (guitar) kicked him out because it is his band, but according to Wikipedia, Perry hurt his hip bone on a hiking trip, and was unable to perform anymore, plus his voice was probably going by then anyway, because think about it. When you're on tour everyone expects the best from you and if you have to sing every night infront of thousands of fans and you don't want to let them down, you take one for the team. Everyone knew what Perry could do and they wanted that, but he had to do it every night and his voice got worn out, it really pushed him alot, and I give him so much credit, he's really an incredble guy, but I guess it became too much for him to handle and he had to step out. After Journey he did a solo tour singing Journey songs, but a few keys down, and his voice isn't anything it used to be, so then he just stopped. But who knows? Some people don't even know Perry isn't in the band anymore  It's been since the late 80's haha

The new Journey offering is only available at Wal-mart. It is two CDs and a DVD concert performance for only $11.88! The first CD is 11 new songs. The second CD is 11 of the Journey classics redone with the new singer. The DVD is concert footage, as I said.

I found a page on the Wal-mart website where you scroll down the page on the left, and they have short clips of all the songs on the CDs. They really do sound great--both CDs. I would encourage anyone to give them a listen. This 2 CD, 1 DVD set is a bargain. Here is the page with the sound clips:

Well, then, it must be true!;)

It's quite possible that Journey is thinking the same thing. It would depend on timing.

That 80's band Journey got a new singer, a new CD...and its called Revelation. Hmmmm.

Well, our 3D Revelation has been ready for like a month or 2 hasn't it??? I'll say it again, what's the hold up??? I was thinking yesterday, and I might get myself in trouble for saying this. I wonder if Brad's guitar work on the new CD, is been taken out. Maybe this is the hold up... But I doubt it.

According to VH1's Behind the Music on Journey, Perry had a hip problem for a while, but it was never unbearable; but on a hiking trip, he aggravated it to a point where he was unable to go on performing.

My sister has it and loves it. She's been a Journey fan since the 80's, and thinks the new lead singer sounds great, on both the new stuff and the cd with the old songs redone.

She's going to be getting a four pack of lawn seats for the Journey/Cheap Trick/Heart show in Raleigh in August, and asked if I'd like to be the 4th person going. I always liked Journey and Cheap Trick (Heart, not so much, but they're just a third of the bill) and since she's paying, I couldn't say no.

If nothing else, it'll let me see how much effort it is to bring the Nikon into Walnut Creek, so I know what to expect at the Music Builds show in September.

Why in the world would they take out his guitar work? The CD already has been heard by thousands. The music has been used in various promos.

There is no "hold up". The release date of July 29th was announced months ago. So there is no hold up that I am aware of, it is right on schedule. When Brad first left the band, and that announcement was made, it was said at that time that the work Brad had done for the Revelation album would be used. I might get myself in trouble for saying this, but I am still floored at times by the comments I read that are in essence suggesting that Mac, Tai, Mark and David would just kick Brad to the curb.

I know. I keep getting inklings of that in some posts here and there too. And how that showed up in a thread about the new JOURNEY CD is beyond me. Can we squash it before it goes any further? ;) So far as I know, I'm with you, the release date for Revelation has ALWAYS been July 29th. So like you said, there HASN'T been any sort of delay anyway.

My sister got our tickets to the concert (Journey, not 3D) yesterday. Unfortunately, she got a their standard 4 pack and apparently didn't know anything about the $10 deal on Thursday that Melanie mentioned in one of the other threads, so paid regular price for them. I will be the good sister and NOT tell her about it, she doesn't really need to know that she just overpaid by about $40 for them. She's the BIG sister and could hurt me for being the messenger. ;)

I am so excited about this new Journey CD. I did not know they had a new one coming out. I had heard somewhere that they had found a new lead singer that sounds alot like Perry.

I will have to go get this. I own every Journey CD so my collection would be incomplete now.

I have been a Journey fan since 6th grade - 1979!

So excited - can't wait to go to WallyWorldMart!

Thanks for the info y'all!
