Yeah this jolts me. I was a fan of Russert. Took no bull, the last great interviewer.

In a profession that is cutthroat, vicious and often cruel, Tim Russert was the absolute best at what he did. He was fair, balanced, and could point out the hypocracy of a politician with a pinpoint accuracy. It was always fun to watch politicians squirm when he would say, "Senator, you said this on this date 10 years ago." A big hole in journalism has been created today, one that may not be filled for a very long time. My condolences to his wife, his son, and the rest of his family. What a tragic, tragic loss.

Don't forget the white board. Jay Leno was very respectful last night. Played a clip when Tim was on the show and talked how his blue-collar dad put four kids through college. How his dad never complained and whenever Tim signed his book it would often be made out to "Big Jim", etc. You see Tim's dad was Big, sorry I don't have this first name, and a lot identified with his dad.

The news coverage of his death is almost disheartening. I understand it's news because he's a high-profile person, but it seems like there are other more important things that could be covered at this point. Like the continuing distress of those around the country who have experienced extreme flooding, or the disaters in Burma or China.

This morning on Today, Meredith Vieira said, "And that's how I really think of him [Tim Russert]; to quote--or paraphrase--the Lord's Prayer, 'his cup runneth over.'" Seriously, people, come on.
