A pastor I spoke with this weekend told me he heard Obama state that he was going to overturn the "Partial Birth abortion" ban....

Anyone hear of this?

Here's a website with some of Obama's ideas on abortion...

Not sure how accurate or biased it is...it seems OK though...

So, where do these guys stand and how does it affect your vote?

Sounds like your pastor-source needs a civics lesson.

Obama says:

Ok for state to restrict late-term partial birth abortion
On an issue like partial birth abortion, I strongly believe that the state can properly restrict late-term abortions. I have said so repeatedly. All I've said is we should have a provision to protect the health of the mother

While this sounds noble at first, the problem with this is that the term "health" is used by many to encompass mental health. The result is that all a pregnant woman has to do is say that her emotional stability will be affected adversely, and they'll have to let her have the late-term abortion. The "health of the mother" provision will not prevent any abortions.

Oftentimes what they were trying to do was to polarize the debate and make it more difficult for people, so that they could try to bring an end to abortions overall.

I don't like this statement by him. Yes, many pro-lifers are guilty of this, but so are the pro-choicers. He points fingers at one side, claiming that they are the divisive ones.

My goal is to get us out of this polarizing debate where we're always trying to score cheap political points and actually get things done.

I agree with this statement. I hope he means it.

I absolutely think we can find common ground. And it requires a couple of things. It requires us to acknowledge that..

1. There is a moral dimension to abortion, which I think that all too often those of us who are pro-choice have not talked about or tried to tamp down.

Absolutely correct. Pro-lifers fail to grasp it, too.

And if we can acknowledge that much, then we can certainly agree on the fact that we should be doing everything we can to avoid unwanted pregnancies that might even lead somebody to consider having an abortion.

Yes. Of course, Jesus speaking into the heart of someone considering an abortion is the best way to do this, but I don't suppose any politician will say so.

Undecided on whether life begins at conception
Q: Do you personally believe that life begins at conception?

A: This is something that I have not come to a firm resolution on. I think it's very hard to know what that means, when life begins.

This is what drives me crazy about pro-choicers. They're saying that if we don't know we're killing a human, then let's keep killing them until we are sure that we're not. Nobody in their right mind would approve of a using a pesticide at schools that may or may not kill children. If you're not sure, then you err on the side of caution.

I'd have a lot more respect for someone who claimed that they were for abortion because they were sure that a fetus is not a person.

Oh well, Give Obama some points. And give him a few more for not dragging out the ridiculous argument that we should allow abortions because unwanted kids don't all get adopted.

He wasn't MY pastor...and it was in casual conversation...

He also said he thinks Obama will be/is the anti-christ cause he is such a smooth talker....with no answers...

I said, "I thought that was Bush..."
