1. Why did I end up at the BBC for this story?

2. The actual use of the thong was not as an item stolen but... You'll see.

3. SICK people in Colorado! :P All the righteous folks must have been in Estes Park. :D

My poor Australian brain immediately pictured guys in blue singlets running away with a pair of double pluggers!!

Yeah, I thought the same. Or covering their faces would have been useful.

I once investigated a man who was caught climbing out of a jeweller's shop window - wearing underpants on his head, socks on his hands and a black plastic bin bag over his body. His pockets were full of jewellery.

His defence....

..."I was on my way to a fancy dress party and some people took exception to my costume, picked me up and threw me through the plate glass window, it was dark and I rolled around whilst coming to my senses and that must be when the jewellery fell into my pockets"

(I also note that one of the offenders in the article did not cover up his tattoo!)

Double pluggers?

Or what about these girls?

ausgirl

Double pluggers: from the urban dictionary - I don't advise going there, some of the other uses of the word are not nice.

A nickname for thongs (the ones that you put on your feet) and seems to be used in Western Australia. They can single- or double-pluggers, single-pluggers being thongs that are reinforced with one set of plugs on the underside of the thongs and double-pluggers being douby reinforced with two plugs
I'm going down to Hay Street Mall today and there's more people wearing single-pluggers than double-pluggers today

We've been blessed with some of the most spectacular mountains in the country here in Colorado. With over 50 peaks that are over 14,000 feet in height it's no wonder that so many of us are brain damaged from oxygen deprivation.....:D

And I can give you some quick answers about the names:

1). 'Railsplitters' is the team nickname for sports teams at high schools in Des Moines, Iowa, and Lincoln, Illinois.

2). 'Hawkeyes' is the team nickname for all sports teams from the University of Iowa.

3). 'Raiders' is a pro football team based in Oakland, California; 'Reds' is a pro baseball team from Cincinnatti, Ohio; 'Sixers' is actually shorthand for the Philadelphia 76ers pro basketball team from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and 'Red Wings' is the pro hockey team from Detroit, Michigan.

So far no athletes from any of these teams have been known to compete while wearing thongs over their heads. But because of the intense rivalry that Denver has with both the Raiders and Red Wings, we still have our doubts about those teams.......:D

Thanks for that - so we are talking about several different sports here.
I like number (2) - use the same name for all the teams and then you can borrow fans for the matches without any confusion.

I contacted Mr Google - apparently most satellites they own are over the Northern Hemisphere at the moment. The amount of petrol needed to drive a satellite all the way around the world to Australia is exhorbitant at the moment - taking into consideration the satellites are hundreds of miles above the earth so the distance to travel is much further.
