Here's about 18 of them...not too bad some of them...
But,they didn't give the best...which I used over trapping season...and it worked.
One morning this past fall, I left super early to beat an impening ice storm. In a small town just south of here...I "turned on red" sure that no one was around. I got pulled over.
When the cop came up and asked for my license and Reg, I interrupted him and told him to just write the ticket, i have a BIG problem on my hands. He asked what the problem was. I told him i had an upset stomach and had to $%it. I needed the nearest cornfield and quick. I told him I was trapping but the coming ice storm had my nerves rattled and I needed a field to "take care of business'' something fierce. I even squirmed in the front seat once or twice. He laughed and let me go.
"Better take care of that..." he said as I left, grinning from ear to ear.
I got my traps all checked, caught 6 fox that day and was back in bed taking at nap shortly after the ice started.
Worked like a charm...

When I got pulled over I just told her the truth...I was looking at what was going on at the fair and didn't realize that the speed limit changed...I still got written up for 5 over...apparently I was going 62 in a 45.

One of the big things in Aussie land at the moment is regarding the reliability of speeding cameras. It has been all over the current affairs programs for the last year or two and they keep telling us to challenge, challenge, challenge! I'll be sure to do that if I ever get a letter in the mail. I did get pulled over this past new years eve for going too quick through a round-a-bout. He asked me if I was in a hurray, I said no, he gave me an RBT, and I was on my merry way. Then I got pulled over a little over an hour later for another RBT on my way to a new year's eve celebration. And I don't even drink.

hahahah funny stuff!
My mom got out of one once cuz the cop was hiding and she didn't see him. When he pulled her over she giggled and said "What were you doing? Hiding in the booshes?" Lord I never saw a cop laugh so hard.

They must have been playing with my speedo too when I was doing 140 on the freeway - in a 110 zone...

Yes, I like it. There's quite a story behind that Avatar too. As I think I mentioned in the UFO thread, one of my favourite ever shows is Stargate. The little dude on my avatar is called Thor (Thor is also my originalXbox (http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/Default.aspx?player=Mithr andirr) gamertag). I don't know if you like the show but you'd love it; global conspiracy and coverups of a monumental scale, Area 51 hiding all kinds of alien gizmoes, and tonnes of other planets with all kinds of wierd and wonderful beings. It's like E's happy place. :D
Hmmmm...I could use that diabetic one.....

E, you're the 3rd person I've known to get out of a ticket using the "gotta go, gotta go" excuse. My boss told me about a similar experience he went through.
Myself...I've been pulled over 6 times for speeding (3 tickets/ 3 warnings), 1 for not having headlights on (honest mistake), 1 for expired tag (driving g/f's car and her mom hadn't sent the new sticker yet), and just recently 1 ticket for too dark of window tint (had this tint for ~6 years and never had a problem till Easter Sunday of 08.)
If you've ever seen my truck, you'd know that I'm especially targeted. It doesn't matter if I'm going 1 over. They see my truck and immediately think I'm purposefully breaking the law. I try my best to be nice to them.

In your opinion, what justifies lying to a police officer to get off the hook for violating the law? I'm not saying it's wrong to try to get out of a speeding ticket, but what makes lying about it OK? And if a person knows s/he was speeding, why do we think it's ok to go to court to challenge it? Where is the integrity in that?

For the record, I agree. Lying is lying. Disobeying the law is disobeying. I'm not saying I don't speed or break laws. I'm saying that no matter what, I don't think it's OK unless you're breaking the law to save a life or protect yourself.

I got pulled over for speeding about 3 weeks ago. "Speeding" at 38 mph. (residential zone -- 25 mph) hahaha!! I have been called a Grandma when it comes to driving so I guess it fits.
I remember thinking as I looked in my rearview mirror "whoa, I didn't even see him coming, I'd better pull over and get out of the way" and then "wait -- he's not passing me". doh! We all know 25 mph is a hard rule to follow -- but it's there for a reason. When the officer asked me if I knew what the speed limit was, I guessed "35"? I seriously didn't know.
I got off with a warning. whew. A friend asked me right away, "Did you cry"? NOOOOO!! I learned early on that if you do something wrong and are called on it, you take responsibility for it. Making up excuses and/or lying are an insult. To me it's a childish response.
p.s. I agree with washboard. About a month ago I had to rush my son to the nearest hospital because his lung collapsed. I was speeding on purpose and knew there was the possibility I'd get pulled over. Well, actually I wouldn't have pulled over -- I would have led him to the emergency room and talked with him once I got my son taken care of. Would I hope that the reason I was speeding would result in a warning and not a ticket? Of course. Was I willing to accept that that might not be reason enough? Absolutely.

Oh what a wonderful memory! Once Christmas Day night, my husband was rushing me to the hospital down the motorway and we were definitely speeding as I had not wanted to go to hospital until after dessert - both our families had come over for the day and Isaac had decided to arrive! We were both laughing between contractions, hoping that we WOULD get pulled over cos it would have been so much fun to tell the officer that we were having a baby!!!! I'm sure we would have gotten off that day!:)

Here's one for you.
My aunt got pulled over one time for speeding and she told the cop that the
needle on her gas guage was on E so she was rushing to the gas station before she ran out of gas. (obviously she didn't know that by driving faster she was using more gas than if she was going slower)

There have been a handful of times that the control panel in my van goes kaput. I have no idea how much gas i really have OR how fast I'm driving.
I have never gotten a warning for speeding. I have, however, been pulled over twice. I'm not saying people who commit moving violations are bad people or immoral. I also get a kick out of the excuses people have attempted to use (or successfully used). But I can't applaud strategizing to get out of the punishment for something that is knowingly deserved, speeding or otherwise.

It wasn't speeding actually....it was turning on red...
I'm justified for all the times that the cops bust someone for soemthing stupid or have no grace on someone....
It all comes out in the wash...

My bad.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just don't think it's godly, righteous, Christ-like or represents integrity in anyway to lie to get out of the punishment for something you actually did. The law doesn't owe you anything for having obeyed it most of the time, and what the cops do to other people has nothing to do with us. I was wondering if you saw it differently, but it seems like "I didn't want to pay/have the points/whatever" makes it ok, in your opinion.

Actually I wasn't laughing at all. I've paid my tickets, so it kinda ticks me off when some people use completely BS excuses and actually get out of the punishment.

Most police officers are given discretion when out in the field, and a cooperative attitude is usually your best weapon (no pun intended!). Know the best way to get some mercy? A simple "I'm sorry" can work wonders. And ladies, tears don't work (most of the time). In fact, some officers think we can turn 'em on at will to try to get out of a citation, and may even cause us to get the "full boat", so to speak!
