For me its deinately "A Walk To Remember". There is like 3 from switchfoot on it. Next to that is has to be August Rush.

Across the Universe, of course!

Band of Brothers, although a miniseries rather than a movie, has some very good music. I actually heard a Dvorak (just imagine the accents on that name ;) ) piece that sounded very similar to BoB.... although that's probably backwards.

The LOTR trilogy is really good.

So are the Star Wars movies.

So far as soundtracks go, I would have to say

All of the Star Wars movies
All of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies

Awesome!

I have all 6 of the CD's that first came out for the series! "OST 1" (Personal Favorite), "Music for Freelance", "No Disc", "Vitaminless", "OST Future Blues - Knocking of Heaven's door" and "Blue". All played countless times for the past several years.

I know that War of the Worlds has been made into a movie many many times but have anyone else apart from me heard Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds it is great and even last year they brought out the live verison on dvd so brilliant better than the tom cruise movie since this version was recorded in the 70s and the live version started touring in 2006 .

They are playing Starter for 10 on HBO and it's set in the 80's, which for the most part sucked for music. But they seemed to pick out the best songs, and they fit well in the film. The Cure's "Pictures of You" is in it. I'm a sucker for that one!

The Gladiator music!! Everytime I hear the music I want to watch the movie again!
Also the music from Snow Falling on Cedars (btw if you haven't seen this film it's fabulous) it's very emotional.

Heh. Yeah. Spinal Tap. There's "none more black" than THAT album cover! :P

What about the music from Last of the Mohicans? That main theme just gloms into your brain and sticks with you for quite a while. We were watching a movie a few weeks ago, don't remember which one it was, but it had a theme that just SOUNDED like the theme from LotM, and I STILL ended up with that LotM theme stuck in my head for hours afterwards. Fortunately, I love the song. :)

Definitley The Commitments. Love that soundtrack.

The soundtrack I've listened to the most however would be from the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. Which just happens to be one of my most favorite movies. I bought the sheet music for it and cannot wait for summer break to start practicing.

Was anyone else here impressed with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon's singing on Walk the Line? Hello? Bueller? Well I thought they did a good job and bought the soundtrack of them singing Cash. It's a toe tapping cd and good enough to listen to more than a time or two.

It depends on whether you are talking about score or soundtrack. Some have mentioned LOTR. My guess that is actually more a reference to the score than the soundtrack.

Score is primraly the background music that underscores the mood of the movie. If that is the critera that one goes by for evaluating a score then the moste effective score that I have ever heard would have to be that which was in the original version of the Shining. Born on the Fourth of July also has a really good score.

Soundtrack music is more like that which you would see in a montage. The Irish folk rock song that you hear at the beginning of the Departed when Leonardo DiCaprio is going to jail is soundtrack. The famous Da-Da, Da-Da music from Jaws is score.

As fars as soundtracks.

The Departed
Saved
Juno
Forrest Gump
Pulp Fiction

Is that the 5-hour BBC/A&E version? My wife and all her friends swear it's much better than the one which came out in theaters afterward. Not having seen either, I have no opinion.

I have both versions and enjoyed the 2005 theater version better. But I'm sure that's because that is the first one I saw and fell in love with. And the music of that version stayed with me just as long as the story itself. Others here agree with your wife.

Rather than repeat ones that have already been mentioned, I thought I'd throw a couple different ones into the mix:

Those probably fit more into the score category, but we won't get into technicalities. ;)

Something I'LL never know. I tried to watch that one sometime back, and gave up on it about 15 minutes into it. Which says a LOT about how much I DIDN'T care for it since it takes a whole lotta dislike for me to turn off a movie once I start watching one.

How about the Music and Lyrics soundtrack. I was stuck humming Pop! Goes My Heart for DAYS after I watched that. :D

You don't have to listen to me if you don't want to, but I suggest you give it another shot. I swear, the beginning is the weirdest part of the whole thing, and if you make it past the first 15, 20 minutes of it it settles down a little bit. But I will say, that even after it settles down, it is pretty strange...during parts...but it's good! :D

I happen to absolutely love the beginning of Moulin Rouge, but I know it's not for everyone. So yeah, if you feel any inclination at all to try again, I highly recommend it.

I'd kind of like to, actually. I've become quite the Ewan Mcgregor fan after finally seeing the first three Star Wars prequels all the way through, so it would be good to see him in something other than as a young Obi-Wan. :) Wouldn't go so far as to get it from Netflix, but maybe the next time it comes on TV, I might tape it.

Back to the future has a great mix between regular songs and instrumental peices... And it is a great course of "Good" eighties music.
