Once the Aldi's opens down the block I'll see if they carry the real thing. Their butter is dirt cheap in comparison to the other stores.

I feel like getting a hot chocolate tomorrow and drinking it at church but that would not be fair on the coffee addicts who have lost their beloved coffee
NurseBettyLu
06-12-2009, 11:37 AM
Nope, wouldn't be nice at all.

06-12-2009, 11:43 AM
I do not understand a church without coffee.

Can't remember where it came from. Gotta go fix my iced for tonight.

I cheated. I've already had one iced tonight and will be draining the pitcher when I leave here.

NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 09:39 AM
I had too much once. It's possible to get drunk on coffee. Kinda fun till the shakes set in.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 09:45 AM
What did you do, down a pot in a few minutes time? Are you sure there was nothing 'extra' in the coffee?
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 09:49 AM
No, it involved the redeye to Boston with nothing better to do, and why you NEVER let somebody military make your travel reservations for you.

Must have been one interesting flight to say the least.

Didn't sleep last night so this is one of those days I wish the coffee could put itself in the machine, fill itself with water, switch on and THEN fix me a cup! If I could twitch my nose like Samantha....
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 10:14 AM
Send me a cup too.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 10:22 AM

06-13-2009, 10:32 AM
Ok if it says, "Starbucks" on both sides? That's the biggest and heaviest one I have.
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 10:36 AM
Starbucks on it -- okay. Starbucks IN it -- no, thankee.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 10:39 AM
Wouldn't do that to a friend. I'm doing Silk later anyhow - no Starbucks bags are open at the present time.

06-13-2009, 10:44 AM
I only have Truvia for a sweetener - or organic sugar. Would you like to sweeten it with your choice?
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 01:52 PM
Just a peench of sugar. Stevia's nasty.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 02:06 PM
Sugar it is. I don't like stevia but the new brand Truvia I DO like and that's all I use now. It doesn't get bitter when hot like stevia did.
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 03:23 PM
Tired. More caffeine, please.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 03:24 PM

NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 03:39 PM
It's a good thing Mark's folks don't mind if we nap. Gotta remember to take a sweater, they keep it awful cold.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 03:40 PM
Napping is good when you have the hours you do. Is your thermos filled with hot coffee to warm you?
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 03:47 PM
No, I take it in a plastic bottle at room temp and nuke it. Or ice it as the ambient temperature requires.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 03:50 PM
Good thing they have a nuker. Too tired tonight for h&h in my cuppa. If I use creamer I drink it if I wake up. Don't want h&h sitting for hours.
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 03:55 PM
That'll get me through the night. Then Pop Joe will make a fresh pot in the am.

06-13-2009, 03:57 PM
Cool. Fringe benefits - someone to make your a.m. java. Send him up here for a visit. Will he make coffee in the p.m.?
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 03:59 PM
Yeah, he's pretty open-mindeed.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 04:02 PM

NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 04:04 PM
Nah, you still gotta get it yourself. He goes back to bed with his.
jesus loves me
06-13-2009, 04:06 PM
Scratch that idea. Did you ever get the Silk when it was on sale last time? I've been working hard to stay out of the coffee aisle when I go shopping.
NurseBettyLu
06-13-2009, 04:09 PM
Yeah, I got a couple more cans. Got a good supply now.

06-13-2009, 04:10 PM

Just got back from getting my favorite summer drink at Caribou Coffee - medium cold press with a shot of white chocolate and raspberry. The employee who made it thought it sounded good and said she would try it. When I told her that an employee named Diana used to make it for me, she said Diana hadn't worked there in almost a year.

It's Tuesday! Coffee! The neighbors are fighting again and the cops are there! Coffee! (Extra for the nice police officers when they're done restoring order) The coffeepot's empty! Coffee! The coffepot's full! Coffee! He who controls the coffee controls the universe. The coffee must flow. I found a place to insert a Dune reference into a thread about coffee! Coffee!

Pomegranate iced tea was pretty good. Cool enough in here with ac for hot coffee but it's summer so I'll stick with iced. "Happened" to go down coffee aisle and nearly panicked - NO Folger's of any kind on the shelves. Still have sale tags up so I guess they just haven't gotten a new shipment in.

I've been keeping an eye on your weather. Is something expected that I missed or is this something you do every year?
NurseBettyLu
06-27-2009, 11:51 AM
Yearly thing. Every June, you check your hurricane gear and go out and buy supplies. If you wait until a storm is actually in the gulf, then stores run out of stuff, people panic, there's price gouging, it just gets ugly. And I sit back and look at my full pantry and smile. As soon as the wind dies down people start blithering for their coffee. I have coffee. Neener neener neener.
jesus loves me
06-27-2009, 11:53 AM

Normally I take a small can of Folger's Classic, and mix it with a small can of Folger's Columbian, and that is how I make the normal stuff. I do have a grinder, and so last time I tried a bag of Duncan Donuts coffee (unground.) I ground it up and gave it a shot. It's back to the Folger's mixture again.
Anyone tried Black Silk? How is it?
My favorite I think is Starbuck's espresso blend. I use it for regular coffee and to make cappucinos. But funds are limited right now, so it's mostly Folger's.

BLACK SILK? NurseBettyLu and I are in love with it! Bold, smooth, reliable and delicious! MY favorite coffee is Starbucks Espresso blend as well but I can't afford it either as my daily coffee. Black Silk is the coffee I drink the most often. I think you'll do fine with Black Silk.
Folger's also has a blend called GOURMET SUPREME that is supposed to be bold. I have a can but haven't opened it yet.

Black Silk is the bestest coffee anywhere. Really and truly. Do try it, it's bold without being bitter. Starbuck's burns their beans. Blech.

Well, I will definitely give it a try next time.
Thanks!

Black Silk is the bestest coffee anywhere. Really and truly. Do try it, it's bold without being bitter. Starbuck's burns their beans. Blech.
I am not a huge fan of most of Starbuck's blends, but I do love the espresso blend. Very smooth. The only drink I get at Starbuck's is the Americano which I believe they use Espresso blend to make that. So no wonder I love it. :)
Anyway, that is a rare treat. Normally we brew our own stuff at home, and it's always Folger's. I tried the special blend a while back and didn't like that. I don't really care for the breakfast blend either. I like dark coffees, but my wife doesn't like as dark. She puts so much creamer in her coffee it looks like a cappucino. But she loves the Columbian flavor. I can take it or leave it. So we compromise, and mix the Columbian with the Classic blend or whatever it's called. And it's not too shabby. But I'm always up for trying something new. The black silk sounds yummy.

I like half&half.Decided I deserved a h&h this time. Found something interesting. The bottle of h&h is so much smaller than the bulky creamer bottle but it contains the same ounces making h&h actually cheaper than creamer :D I'm not giving up creamers I actually like but I'M FREE to buy h&h now!:D :D :D :D

Yeah and when you actually look at the bottle differences you realize the creamers have those big pouring caps that make it look bigger plus the shape of it is bulky. The store brand h&h has a small cap and is very trim in shape. That iced coffee with h&h last night was stellar.

I'm not sure if I've tried it with Bailey's iced. Will have to try. Must find the bottle. I'm really liking either Truvia or Purevia in it. Doesn't have the bittier aftertaste that plain old stevia had.

jesus loves me
07-10-2009, 11:18 AM
I gave up on stevia because of it. From what I've read, these new brands do something so they only get the sweet from the stevia plant. Trvuvia comes in packs like Sweet & Low and Purevia comes in the things like the Crystal Light to go - the sticks. It comes with a price though.
