I really need some technical help. I am not that proficient on computer but I can find my way around. I kind of have 2 questions. First of all, what can I do to effectively block spam e-mail ? I seem to have gotten on a site which I trusted but which was apparently not a very good site and now I am getting TONS of spam. I know there are spam blockers you can buy, but are there any, say online that are half decent and free ? I have an e-mail provider where I can "block/bounce to sender" but so far the spam is still coming.
Secondly, I have been trying to upload pictures on to the Third Day site. When I click the attachments icon and then click browse, I always get a message that the file I am trying to upload is too big. Does anyone know how I can reduce the size of the pictures I am trying to post ?
Thanks ahead of time everyone for your help or suggestions. I really appreciate it.. Peace

Once spammers have your email address, they're likely to sell it to other spammers. And once they all have it, there is nothing you can do to keep them from having it. When I am asked to give an email address to a company, I give them my hotmail address which I set up just for such things. My real address, I keep that to myself and only give it to trusted people.
If you don't want to change your current address, which the Spammers are now familiar with, then blocking it depends on how you access it. Is it a web-based address like hotmail or gmail? Or is it one that came with your ISP (yourname@sbcglobal.net, for example?)

My e-mail came with my ISP, myname@etc.net (or whatever). :(

In that case, you probably access your email through Outlook, Outlook Express, or some other program on your home PC (as opposed to webmail).
In that case, you could installed some anti-spam program on your PC. I will have to do some digging. I don't know off the top of my head which is best. Avoid Norton, though.

May be off topic - but why avoid Norton?

Do you have Microsoft Office installed? If so, there is a picture formatting program that you can use. I can't remember the name, but it would be on your Start menu under the Microsoft Office folder.
Once in, you can resize the picture to the size you want for upload. If it is still too large, you can save as a .jpg image and click on the advanced options button. There you can change the quality of the image...usually a 6 or 7 quality is fine for uploads. The lower the quality, the smaller the kb size.
Hope that helps.

McAfee & Norton are both notorious for not catchin' every virus...of course that's probably true of other virus protection programs but....

This has nothing to do with Norton not catching everything. Norton makes a lot of products, most of which are not supposed to catch viruses.
Norton tends to have a lot of conflicts with operating systems. If you have not encountered it yet, you can consider yourself lucky. But those in my industry who know how operating systems work know that Norton goes too deep and ties itself into the OS at a level that it can really mess things up, especially if you try to add a patch to Windows. And uninstalling Norton products doesn't usually work well, for the same reason.

Thanks everyone for taking time for me. I know I am so STUPID  for messing up my e-mail. I really appreciate the help you have all given me. I actually feel like maybe I belong on the boards, after all, even if I dont make it to see Third Day live. Take care and peace :D

I just saw Third Day live for the first time in April, and James has not seen them yet - though I think he may be going soon to see them.
Stupid is as stupid does. :P Aren't we all that way sometimes somewhere.

They are also natorious for being system hogs too. The resources they use up are terrible. I uninstalled Norton from my new Vista(which is a memory hog itself) laptop and now she runs like she is supposed too.
I suggest AVG it takes up very little system resources and its also free and very good.
Now the premium version of it has a spam and spyware blocker I think.
I also suggest to stay away from the big ones like Norton and Mcaffe too.
and I dont think ANY virus program catches EVERY virus either. Some are just better than others
if this post does not make any sense by the way its because I am tired and I have a three hour pointless stupid communications class ahead of me(in 9 minutes to be exact)

Who? Me? I've seen them 3 times.

Really?
Hmmm...*shakes head to loosen memory modules*
I honestly thought I remembered reading a post of yours just recently that said you were going to see them for the first time.
Please excuse me, I have mad cow. ;)

I saw them twice before joining these here boards. So maybe you read me saying that I was about to see them for the first time since coming here.

If you are needing something to re-size images to post here on the boards, you could use the Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) to do that. It's a free image editing program.
