Does or did Brad still run two compressors on his pedal board? Does anyone know how he got his tone so huge? Check his solo out in R.E.M.s The One I Love <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/weV4d1mKEaI&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/weV4d1mKEaI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

From my knowlege, the amp is going to contribute the most to one's tone. However, he could be using a comp. in there. I did a quick search on the amps he was using back then and came up with a Matchless Chieftan head and Marshall JCM-800 head.

Also, a lot of Brad's tone is in his hands....

Here's a few things Brad had to say about his tone and amps:

From This thread. (http://www.thirdday.com/boards/showthread.php?t=87449)

OK! OK! I think that you have waited long enough. It is a BadCat Panther. I know.... you haven't heard or seen one before. That is because they haven't been released to the buying market quite yet. They are coming soon mind you. James Hydric built me this 6V6 combo beauty that is awesome. It is duel channels that work simultaneously. It is a fresh type of tone to my ear and I think that people will go crazy when they hear this thing. As far as audio is concerned, I am miking it on stage. Those that caught my last entry will remember that the Goodsell Super 17 and the Matchless Chieftain are powering a Greenback loaded Marshall 4x12 and a Vintage 30 loaded Marshall 4x12 cabinet respectively. Both marshall cabinets are isolated off-stage. The Epiphone Triggerman 4x12 isn't miked, but does sound amazing. It has more low end than any other 4x12 I have ever heard. Don't know if you had any more queries, but that's the bulk of the story. Check out a Panther if you get a chance. You won't be disappointed.

Ya'll keep rockin'.
brad....

And from this thread. (http://www.thirdday.com/boards/showthread.php?t=87448)

Really! I didn't think you guys really cared that much. Alright, the combo is a GOODSELL SUPER 17. There is a guy in Atlanta named Richard Goodsell who makes them. He has been a B3 hunter/tech for years and decided to start making amps using vintage B3 transformers. This amp is a very simple efficient Class A design that is pure tone. It isn't miked on stage because it is powering an isolated 4x12 backstage. However, it is loaded with a Vintage 30 and a G12H Greenback which sound incredible. Richard makes 4 amps the 17,22,33, and 44. The 33 is like the 17 but of course twice the power. The 22/44 amps are 6V6 beauties that are special in their own right. Richard is a great guy who gives very personal attention to all of his clients. If you are interested, you can get the skinny at www.superseventeen.com

if you search for H.B.E. Power Screamer via youtube you will find the answer. Click on the video posted by ProGuitarShop.com He plays The One I love on the intro of the video, plus Brad uses this pedal in leu of one of his many tube overdrives, as he often mixes up his pedal choices. I believe BRAD also is using a phaser in Third Day's version of The One I Love. Hope this helps and is not too late.

i am sorry, if you actually search for voodoo lab sparkle drive via YouTube and choose the video posted by proguitarshop.com you will find your answer. Brad used this pedal on the Wire tour. I used to have this pedal and have to say that it is way better than any tube screamer. I have had many tube screamers including the Ts-808, TS-9, and even used the Keeley Mod TS-808. The Sparkle Drive is awesome. I came across it when i was looking for a specific sound that Brad was using and thought it was the Sparkle Drive but in actuality it was a Zachary Vex Super Duper 2-in-1 that gave him a really sparkly tone. If you watch the Rockumentary on the Live Wire DVD when his is working out a riff for the song "Til The Day I Die" you can hear what i am talking about. It is also the tone from his intro guitar work on "Come On Back To Me." Anyway, like I was saying previously, he often switches out his tube overdrives from ibanez to maxon to voodoo lab to home brew electronics. definately check out the sparkle drive though!
