I have some stomp boxes and I also have a multi-fx pedal. I have quite a bit of experience with my multi-fx, but I got some stomp boxes around Christmas, and I have to say that I don't really care for them. They are mainly Boss pedals. I play them through a tube amp, and I sometimes think it sounds better if I just plug my guitar into the amp and forget the pedals!

My question is this. . .
Can I by a small cabinet, like a 1 or 2 speaker cabinet, and just plug my multi-fx pedal into it?
My reasoning is that the multi fx pedal has pre-amp models as well as fx models on it. So rather then plug it into an amp whose own preamp will color the sound, can I just plug the fx unit into a speaker cab to amplify my sound? I figure if I sort of do that through the PA at church, isn't that the same difference? Hope this all makes sense. Let me know what some of you more experienced folks think.

You will still need an "amplifier" to amplify the sound. I have heard of people buying keyboard amplifiers for multi-fx, because the keyboard amps don't "color" the sound. That way you could just use the pre-amp of the multi-fx, but use the amp to project the sound.
