I did pretty well with our coonhound pups so i decided to buy another dog and do some breeding...

Scarlet is 140 lbs and is a Mastiff. She'll be bred next month and her pups should fetch 1000.00 ea....

She gets along with our coonhound but will be an outside dog....

On average, the largest dog breed in the world is the English Mastiff (height + weight average). However, St. Bernards have a slightly higher average "top" weight (see chart below), so there is actually room for argument. St. Bernards have been featured as record-breakers in Guinness in the past (300+ pounds), but these records have been broken by English Mastiffs.

Zorba, the largest dog ever recorded, was an English Mastiff of over 343 pounds, and measuring 8 feet 3 inches long from his nose to his tail. He stood 37 inches at the shoulder. He was recorded in the books as Aicama Zorba in November 1989 at the age of 8 years old. Zorba is no longer living, so I believe Hercules (another English Mastiff) has claimed the world record.

The tallest dog ever recorded is now a Great Dane named Gibson, at 42.2 inches tall; but the tallest breed according to averages is the Irish Wolfhound. Maybe they just don't measure their dogs as often in Ireland?

Irish Wolfhound: weight: 105-125 lbs. height: 35-35 in.
Great Danes: weight: 100-120 lbs. height: 28-32 in.
English Mastiff: weight: 175-190 lbs. height: 27.5-30 in.
Neopolitan Mastiff: weight: 150-180 lbs. height: 26-31 in.
Newfoundland: weight: 130-150 lbs. height 28-30 in.
Saint Bernard: weight: 150-200 lbs. height: 27-30 in.

Good luck, E!

$1000 for a puppy? OMGoodness. I know there are dogs who bring more - it just seems like a lot to me - for a dog that is. That will be a nice bit to get tho, eh?

I cringed spending $350 on our chocolate lab.
