View Full Version : ENCORE OR just one more?

I have been noticing at TOO many shows of late when it gets to Encore time - folks are calling out for "one more song". What is up with that?  and who was the non-genius that started it? The last part we may never know, however, as bonifide PSYCHO GomersFans, we have got to do something about it!!! I am thinking, just get LOUD er than those other one'rs.

So I ask, which do you prefer, an ENCORE or just one more song?

If you miss and so desire the traditional THREE songs, yes, THREE song ENCORE - you are gonna have be LOUD about it and I intend to do just that. Hehe, kind of funny when I think about it, me getting louder?? May not be pretty :P

We all have to work together on this, would you agree? Otherwise, how are we going drown out and otherwise change the chant of the "one more song" chanters??

First, but I'll say it Last, I have to Thank Third Day for not listening to any of them thus far and giving us two songs. We love the ENCORE, ya'll are forever doing something crazy and fun. Feels like the party is just getting started!! You don't have to leave, we will stay right there as long as you play!!!

I'm in. I'm pretty loud myself. We need to decide on an official chant to get the message across, and perhaps make a sign!

I've been to several shows where we yelled and clapped loudly until the guys came back on stage. Of course we want to hear more than one song, so ENCORE it is!

This thread reminds me of the live version of "Love Song" from Offerings I.

Mac: Whoo, has anybody had a good time tonight?
Crowd: CHEERS
Mac: Amen. We've had a good time. I'm tired though, I'm tired. I can't go on (?). I can't go on. Mark, can you go on?
Mark: *sigh* Yeah.
Mac: Alright, let's do this.

and then they go right on into one of my most favorite songs...EVER.

Instead of 3 songs, why not all night long? :)

This reminded me of one morning when my son was around 10 (he's 15 now) and we were getting ready for school. He walked into the kitchen, grabbed a bowl and said, "I can't go on." I looked at the back of his head and thought, "whoa, I wonder what's bothering the little guy." Then he grabbed the milk and sighed, "I can't go on" again. I looked at him & my heart sank. I immediately thought that I was going to have to get this boy some counseling. Then he poured the milk and said, "mark, can you go on?" I DID NOT see that one coming!!!:D He had no idea that I had already gone to "I've failed as a mother" and back.:D I'll never forget that.

Our worship leader did it one time as well. I believe it was during a youth service. I definately knew what song was coming. He just looked at me and grinned! I don't think anyone else got it.

Maybe it had to do with California sunshine (80 degrees that day), or flying cross country, and having to play more songs to get rid of the airplane hangover/cobwebs. or could it be the fact that the church had a coffee bar? i know mac asked someone in the audience to get tai a cup of coffee for the second encore!:P :P :P

My perfect encore would be where they sing everything they haven't already sung, plus "sweet home alabama" and "free bird"!

How about shouting this one: "Keep playing till I tell you to stop!" Yeah, I think I like it! I'll practice it for my FIRST THIRD DAY SHOW 8/9/08 (have I mentioned that at all yet?)

I think they should start all shows on this tour at 6 p.m. That would give Third Day at least an extra hour to play. I don't know how that would go over with the band, but I'd be in favor of it. Then we wouldn't even have to worry about an encore.

If the crowd is rockin, which really gets them into and the venue would allow it, bet they would....

Ah, yeah! I like this one too. Wonder if it'll work? You'll have to pass out a memo to the crowd though.... At NTB in Houston, Chik fa le, however you spell it, I eat it, I don't read it. Anyway, folks were hollering, "one more song", even one of the radio guys...I could not believe what I was hearing. What is up people, an encore is more than one song unless the song is forever long....

"ONE MORE CONCERT!!!!!:D PLEASE!!!!:D "

I'm anxious to see how may songs Tom Petty does in his encore. Back in the day...LOL, 7 score and all my kids were still at home :P they played 3. Oh yea, memories coming back to me now...Roger McQuinn joined him on stage, it was great. Refugee was on of the encore songs...cool!

My request here is please please, keep on playing the three song encores....I am grateful!!

I think Jackson Browne may have stoked this whole "one-song" encore thing with "Stay":

People stay just a little bit longer
We want to play -- just a little bit longer
Now the promoter don't mind
And the union don't mind
If we take a little time
And we leave it all behind and sing
One more song
Oh won’t you stay just a little bit longer
Please, please, please say you will
Say you will

Well you are part of the band since you play the tambourine, so should have input on these things. :)

I'll be yelling "ENCORE" next Saturday at Sonfest. Hope they play many more since they will be the last band!
