View Full Version : Which camera?
Okay, now, I need a new digital camera 'cause mine won't work anymore...probably dropped it too many times....I hope to receive one for Christmas but I can't expect Santa to spend more than $100-$150 on it.....What is a good buy at that price?

My PC World magazine that just came in yesterday and an extended section on digital camera ratings. And I just tracked down the online version. Their "Top 10" were mostly out of your price range, but maybe you can find a happy medium between price and features that would work for you.
I sorted the page by price, lowest to highest, and then grabbed the URL so they'd stay sorted in that order, so hopefully this might be of some help. :)

Thanks Karen! The Canon Powershot was a likely candidate but I'll consider the HP Photosmart as well......thanks again! (Maybe someday I can afford a REAL camera like you!):D

The Canon range are usually a very good option. They are generally well made and nicely designed - so, easy to use.
Maybe see if they have one with a rubber case, or, at least a strap, so it's not gonna break when it's dropped :) :D :P

I have a Canon Powershot A550 that I paid $100 for at Target. It's not what I use at the concerts but I use it all around the house and town (I have it with me all the time). It's a good camera I think.

I had an HP Photosmart when I first became addicted to taking pictures. Worked really great and I was really happy with the pictures... until I started using it more and more at events. I went from taking just a couple pictures to several at a time.. then started using the button controls to change settings.. they failed. The material used to make the buttons on the internal part of the camera was very thin and cheap and it cracked and stuck in the down position (got to warm from over use). I went back and forth with the service department, but my camera was over a year old.. tough luck.. I will not purchase another HP because of that.
I'm sold on canon quality. I have 5 various Canons ad they have all been worked very hard and are still just great. I dropped and cracked the seal on my first "Canon" lens and it still takes great pictures.
Whatever camera you think you might like, go to the "customer service" portion of the website to see how many "updates" and "Tech tips" are posted. Also check various sites like Circuit City, Amazon..etc where people leave feedback on the quality of the product. I like to read the feedback and then compare it with what is listed on the manufacturers site as "support". If the customer gripes on Amazon or circuit city match up to what the manufacturer has as "helpful hints", I'll normally avoid even putting myself in that uphill position with a new product. <- that make sense?)
Canon makes an excellent camera. HP is not know for digital camera quality.
Thanks....I finally got a PowerShot A570 IS......so far pretty happy with it....
