Funny how in just a couple years this date doesn't even get a headline in the news anymore..
Just thought it was interesting consider this date truly changed the course of America and made us the industrial/military superpower that we are today.

It would have come about anyhow. The US was already well focused on $$$ and power before 1941, and the two go together to give you a win-win situation (depending on your theology of course.) Which president was it said that all power comes out of the barrel of a gun - sorry, no, it was a general I think.

I was just thinking, and from history that I read, that we 'helped' Europe in WWII. It was Pearl Harbor that got America motivated by the "how dare you!" and "will make you pay for that!" attitude. Before December 7th America really wasn't 100% into the war.
At least from what I've learned, and ya can't always trust that since I was in the public school system all my life..;)

Having 2 great-uncles (my grandma's brothers) whose names are on the wall at Pearl Harbor, this day has always meant something more to me personally.

I'm not sure if it is PC to call it Pearl Harbor Day at my company anymore. :(

Yes, Pearl Harbor is what got us into the war. My mom lost her brother in that war to a sniper and the man she was married too lost his mind after the war. Dec. 7 changed everything for that generation.

Mao Tse Tung is famous for saying this.

Anyone been to the Pearl Harbor Memorial? I'll just go ahead and say, it gives an eerie feeling.
Does anyone know that it was Elvis who paid for that memorial?
Hopefully this doesn't qualify as thread jacking.
Thanks for the reminder and I will be sure to include this in our studies today, as I certainly had forgotten.

*sigh*
World War II is sometimes still a reality here. Seriously, they are still finding old bombs from back then... and once they did so only about 200 meters away from where my family lived. Seriously, it is a crazy feeling when you realise that there was a bomb of around 250 kg so close to your home! Still, when you take a look at how my hometown was looking right after the war then such finds are hardly a surprise.

You are correct. Elvis helped to build the Pearl Harbor memorial. He played a benefit concert there at Bloch arena on March 25, 1961 (can't remember how much money was raised) and on the day after Elvis's passing the people there laid a wreath in honor of Elvis.
(sorry for the thread hi-jacking)
What a tragedy....:(
