There is some evidence that Osama and/or Al Queada were trained and funded by our CIA..even up until 9/11.
Could it be it backfired on us?
What about Osama being visited by a CIA agent while getting dialysis? Why hasn't he been caught? Is he even alive?
Here's a few links on it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osama_bin_Laden
Lastly, if we indeed DID fund him, then we're no different than Saddam which many use the excuse that he gave moeny to the family of suicide bombers...
Did we create a monster or was he a scapegoat?
GO!

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
This is neither new knowledge nor was it necessarily the wrong choice at the time. At the time Bin Laden was fighting against the Soviets who invaded Afganistan.
It is real easy to Monday Morning Quarterback foreign policy but in 1980 we didn't have the luxury of future goggles to tell us what a monster Bin Laden would become.

E's post is actually the tip of a very large iceberg. Throughout the twentieth century there is a consistent pattern of US-British support for and collusion with fundamental Islam.
Throught the 20th century the US and Great Britain utilized fundamental Islamic groups to further their selfish imperial interests at controlling the oil in the mid east.
With the industrial revolution in full swing it became apparent that oil was going to be the energy of the future and in order to maintain control and military supremacy access to and control of the mid east had to be secured.
It can be rightly said that were it not for funding and support from the US and Britian the present day radical Islam would not exist as a movement. In the WW 1 era the British funded and supported Ibn Saud and the establishment of Saudi Arabia. The United States supported and financed Said Ramadan and the Muslim Brotherhood (a radical Islamic group which used terror to achieve it's political goals) . The modern day Hamas is a descendant of the Brotherhood. The US supported the Muslim brotherhood because they backed regimes in the mid-east favorable to US oil interests. In fact President Eisenhower personally had Ramadan and other higher ups in the Brotherhood as guests at the White House.
Thus is exposed America's hypocritical double standard, claiming to fight a 'war on terror' yet throughout the 20th century it heavily financed and supported these very organizations.
The US and Great Britain used and supported radical Islamic groups when it suited their purposes and was in their interests. Notwithstanding the fact that they murdered to achieve their objectives.
Dr. Stan Monteith of Radio Liberty Ministries has well documented research on US-British collusion with terror groups.

And this comes as a surprise to you? Personally, I'm sure that nothing has really changed in this respect. The only thing that has changed is the fact that the big governments have become more discrete about it simply because it tends to be a public relations catastrophe when such things make it into the news. Just think of the Iran-Contra affair, if you want an example.

The lions share of US support for the Taliban, Al-Quaeda, and Bin Laden came through Pakistan's ISI, (their intelligence agency). For all intents and purposes the ISI is a CIA proxy organization, working in tandem with CIA and receiving support and equipment from CIA. The ISI has been heavily implicated with funding and supporting the Taliban and supplying Al-Quaeda.
Not only that but prior to 9/11 the US had relations with the Taliban also. Taliban leaders met with big oil reps in Texas during the summer of '01 to attempt to negotiate an oil pipleine from the Caspian Sea through Afghanistan to port in Pakistan.
In addition, in May of 2001 the US govt. gave the Taliban 43 million dollars.
One particular smoking gun regarding ISI is that it was discovered that ISI chief Mahmoud Ahmad had authorized 9/11 paymaster Ahmad Umar Sheihk to wire a $100,000 payment to alleged lead hijacker Mohammed Atta a few days prior to the attack.
On the morning of 9/11 Ahmad was in Washington eating breakfast with Porter Goss and Bob Graham.
The respected Centre for Research on Globalization has a good article documenting the CIA-ISI-Al-Quaeda connection.

Excerpt:
The FBI confirmed in late September, in an interview with ABC News (which went virtually unnoticed) that the 9-11 ring leader, Mohammed Atta, had been financed from unnamed sources in Pakistan:
"As to September 11th, federal authorities have told ABC News they have now tracked more than $100,000 from banks in Pakistan, to two banks in Florida, to accounts held by suspected hijack ring leader, Mohammed Atta. As well . . . "Time Magazine" is reporting that some of that money came in the days just before the attack and can be traced directly to people connected to Osama bin Laden. It's all part of what has been a successful FBI effort so far to close in on the hijacker's high commander, the money men, the planners and the mastermind."9
The FBI had information on the money trail. They knew exactly who was financing the terrorists. Less than two weeks later, the findings of the FBI were confirmed by Agence France Presse (AFP) and the Times of India, quoting an official Indian intelligence report (which had been dispatched to Washington). According to these two reports, the money used to finance the 9-11 attacks had allegedly been "wired to WTC hijacker Mohammed Atta from Pakistan, by Ahmad Umar Sheikh, at the instance of General Mahmoud [Ahmad]." 10 According to the AFP (quoting the intelligence source):
"The evidence we have supplied to the U.S. is of a much wider range and depth than just one piece of paper linking a rogue general to some misplaced act of terrorism."
This pattern of 'covertly arming our enemies' is nothing new. It has been shown that the CFR globalists on Wall Street and in our government covertly financed and supplied the Soviet Union as well.
During the Vietnam war the Rockefeller owned Chase Manhattan Bank provided a $169 million dollar loan to the Soviets to build the Kama River plant in the Soviet Union, which produced military grade vehicles and engines. The transaction was approved by President Johnson and Sec. Defense McNamara, (Both members of the globalist Council on Foreign Relations).
Kama river produced military vehicles which were then shipped to North Vietnam on the Vladivostoc to Haiphong freighter run.
The globalists in our government were quietly financing and supporting the Soviets who supplied the NVA with equipment to kill US troops in Vietnam.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I misread "Osama" as "Obama". I was like... what? I was wondering what the two had to do with each other. :)
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. :)
